The Arizona Senate proclaimed 2026 as the Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists throughout Arizona in recognition of and solidarity with the United Nations International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists 2026.

Our Assistant Rangeland Management Specialist Flavie Audoin (second from left) was able to attend the reading of the proclamation yesterday and celebrate the effort, which was led by Barbara Hutchinson, with support for her and George Ruyle. Thanks to Bob Rink for the group photo!

Leadership leaves a lasting legacy.

We were honored to have several past AZSRM Presidents join us at the 2026 AZSRM Spring Meeting. Their dedication, vision, and service have helped shape our organization and advance the stewardship of Arizona's rangelands for generations.

Thank you to each of these leaders for your commitment to the Society for Range Management, the ranching community, natural resource conservation, and the future of our working landscapes.

Strong organizations are built on strong leadership, and AZSRM continues to benefit from the foundation laid by those who came before us.
Here's to honoring our past while investing in the future of Arizona's rangelands.

Week 2 | Mobility & Adaptation

Mobility is a core climate resilience strategy in pastoral systems.

For generations, pastoral communities have adapted to changing conditions by moving with the land, aligning livestock with shifting ecological opportunities, and reducing pressure on rangeland ecosystems. This flexibility strengthens resilience in the face of drought, extreme weather, and climate uncertainty.
When mobility is restricted, climate risk increases.

This week, we’re highlighting why mobility, flexibility, and adaptive management are essential to the future of resilient rangelands.
