Revitalizing our spirits:
We do this through all the various activities we take part in. We are a close-knit group and in addition to daily life we enjoy getting together for social gatherings such as potlucks, hikes, communal gardening, camping trips, yoga, dance, moon celebrations, community service, fieldtrips, and growing our network of like-minded/spirited people. 100 Healing Acres Project wo
rks with various complementary individuals, groups and organizations to be part of a wider movement towards harmonious, healthier, happier, more sustainable living for us all. Restoring community :
There was a lost sense of community in the lives of our founders and members, so we came together as a “Framily” (a family of friends) and are in the beginnings of developing our intentional community. Currently we all live independently and are not geographically restricted. We have an extended community of online members and project friends and supporters who share in our vision of a better world and actively promote sustainable living, goodness, and stewardship to both land and spirit. As a non-residential community we share the belief that the Earth is our provider and caretaker, and it is vital to return to a more harmonic way of life with not only the land but with one another and with ourselves. Reclaiming land for good stewardship practices:
Though we are not an official land trust, we are a group of educated stewards that seek to reclaim land from owners who are unable to care for their land comprehensively and improve it’s ecological health. We also offer ecological consulting for private land owners. It is our nature to nurture, and as the saying goes, “take care of the land, and the land will take care of you”. The goal is 100 acres, in parcels across the USA. We are at 10% of that goal as our organization recently became the caretakers of 10 acres in Leadville, CO where we first plan to improve site accessibility and wildlife habitat. We currently are looking to acquire land outside of Flagstaff to establish a base site, which will serve primarily as a spiritual/ primitive retreat. Where we are now:
Our humble Flagstaff community consists of our six co-founders and four project members. Between us all there are two children, three cats and five dogs–we are a family friendly bunch. Each couple or individual lives alone, or is responsible for their residential status; we are all renters and will continue to live “conventionally” until we are prepared to establish our homestead just outside of town. At this time we have not acquired land for the homestead, but we are researching possible land opportunities four our community in the area and hope to purchase something within the next 2-5 years. In the meantime, we are also looking into a rural-retreat land option that will serve the following initiatives; natural and outdoor therapeutic practices, spiritual sanctuary, sustainable building techniques, dry-weather gardening, mixed media gatherings, and a place to be that is outside of the everyday grind. We also have an online community of over 230 people (and growing) who use various social media outlets to further our collective sustainable goodness movement and stay connected with the core group in Flagstaff through email or s.m. sites such as Facebook or WordPress. We also send out a monthly newsletter, please email us if you would like to subscribe for free! As for our stewardship services, we are regularly involved in urban restoration projects around our local area. During the warmer months, we will go camping and spend a portion of our time cleaning littered campgrounds. Also weather permitting, our group holds monthly clean-up hikes in surrounding natural areas. In addition, we are remotely managing 3 acres in central Wisconsin, 10 acres in Eastern South Carolina and make seasonal trips to our 10 acre caretaking site in Leadville, CO.
*Disclaimer: Because we’re only beginning our development, unfortunately we cannot host visitors at this time. However, if you are interested in getting involved in our online/extended community or any of our Flagstaff projects, we would love for you to send us an email! We love meeting new people. Where we want to be:
The grand vision for the 100 Hundred Healing Acres Project is to create a network of communities across the United States that promote sustainable living, goodness, and stewardship to both land and spirit. We are developing our base site in Flagstaff, AZ. Use of additional locations to be determined. From each community branch we could eventually create local, small-scale businesses and/or operations which would offer various services throughout the seasons that would promote our values while supplementing each member’s income. For Flagstaff, we are aiming to create an eco-friendly homestead which utilizes passive solar design, rain and snowmelt collection and dry weather permaculture.Dry weather permaculture, sustainable farming, and passive solar will be some of the focus at this site. Services offered will be event hosting, outreach services, and retreats for religious, educational, and recreational purposes. Once established, we want to promote holistic living by opening our homestead up for events, retreats and workshops. Ultimately it is our goal to acquire 100 acres of land throughout the country and establish a cultural network across the United States that models a form of healthy, meaningful, sustainable living that gives back to nature and ourselves. Interconnected with our land-healing sites are our Healing Acres intentional communities, which would be of various sizes and social structures which allows and encourages the repair of the natural environment and the natural human spirit at a healthy, self-regulated pace. Like the 100-acre wood from Winnie the Pooh books, 100 Healing Acres Communities would be located near or on our slices of land and could sites could be migrated to by working members regularly with ease. Healing Acre communities would be a source of good for society as community outreach and restoration will be an ongoing area of involvement for each group. These communities would occur in the towns/cities adjoining pieces of our 100 Healing Acre-wood and will only be made of individuals that care for themselves, their fellow human, and their environment. In the end we want to do a little good that goes a long way. Our goal is for our land, sites, members, communities, and fellow life forms to thrive in harmony universally.
