Local 1505 is proud to have sent four of our members to the IAFF’s Strive for Excellence conference this week—an investment in training, leadership, and the future of our Local.

This conference delivers real, hands-on knowledge that directly impacts how we operate and serve our community. Our members participated in sessions covering mid-rise operations, developing leaders, recruitment & retention strategies, lithium-ion battery hazards, communication strategies, fireground tactics, and more.

These aren’t just classes—they’re opportunities to bring back critical information, sharpen our skills, and strengthen our department from within. When we send members to events like this, it’s because we believe in continuous growth and sharing that knowledge with the entire Local.

We look forward to the experience and insight they’ll bring back to Local 1505 as we continue working to better serve our members and our community. 🔥

The 5th Annual Fireman’s Challenge Fundraiser is happening this Friday!

This event, hosted by Pi Kappa Alpha, has become the largest annual fundraiser supporting Local1505’s Charities—with 100% of proceeds going directly toward helping the mental and physical health of our union’s members and our community’s members. We’re incredibly grateful for continued support!

While this is a private event, you can still be part of the impact. If you’d like to support the event and the mission, check out the link (also in our bio) to donate or purchase event merchandise. https://pikes.crowdchange.co/57657

Every contribution helps us continue the work we’re proud to do both for our members and throughout the community.

Huge thank you to for sponsoring and making this event possible!

Local 1505 was proud to send representatives to this year’s IAFF Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., joining more than 700 fire fighters from over 270 Locals. Together, we advocated for priorities like next-generation protective gear, wildfire response training, stronger protections for federal fire fighters, and national collective bargaining rights.

We’re also encouraged by recent legislative victories, which are a testament to the power of fire fighters standing united:
* The Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act now recognizes occupational cancer as a line-of-duty death, ensuring families receive the benefits they deserve.
* The Social Security Fairness Act restores full Social Security benefits for fire fighters and other public servants.

We remain committed to advocating for policies that protect our members, strengthen our profession, and ensure we can continue serving our communities at the highest level.

Yesterday- along numerous other firefighters, police, EMS personnel, and civilians- we stood shoulder to shoulder in an honor cordon as the procession passed through Flagstaff, paying tribute to DPS Pilot Robert Sk***ey.

Today, we will again stand in honor and remembrance at 3:00 PM for State Trooper/Paramedic Hunter Bennett, the other victim of the tragic helicopter crash.

Both men were killed in the line of duty on February 4, when Ranger 56 crashed while responding to an active shooter incident in Flagstaff.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten, and their service will always be honored.

Please keep their families, loved ones, and the entire DPS family in your thoughts during this heartbreaking time.

Rest easy, brothers.
