On April 6th, 1987, 4 women decided to make a place for themselves on campus where they felt there was not one. These women had no idea the ripple effects that their seemingly small action would cause. They united over shared interests and struggles to form what would become Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc. Decades later, at 31 years old, we have grown into an organization of individuals working collectively to develop, foster, and reaffirm spaces for one another. We have grown beyond what our founders could have ever imagined, and we have done things together that as individuals we never thought we would be able to. We have taken classes together, graduated together, been each other's bridesmaids, stood in solidarity with each other, sobbed into each other arms, and laughed with each other until our ribs begged us to stop. We have expanded to include more and more types of women, and over time our pink rose bloomed into a mosaic. Today marks the anniversary of women coming together, supporting each other, and envisioning a flower where they only saw soil. Today we celebrate 31 years of lessons learned and obstacles overcome. Today we celebrate growth.

Our organization at 31 years old has many years ahead of it. Our founders planted a seed and with every year that passes more flowers grow. We hope you are encouraged knowing that our garden has only just started to bloom. HAPPY FOUNDER’S DAY, SISTERS!

Emma Gonzalez is an American activist and advocate for gun control. As a high school senior she survived the February 2018 Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, and in response co-founded the gun-control advocacy group Never Again MSD. She first drew national attention after a speech she gave at a rally against gun violence went viral.

A courageous example of a young Latina rising up from tragedy to take a stand, she is using her voice to bring about change and leading a nationwide movement. As a mass shooting survivor, she along with her classmates are making history through their youth-led violence prevention advocacy to make our schools and nation safer for all children.
