Last year, we had the honor of screening Jane Austen’s Period Drama in our comedy block. It quickly became one of the most talked about films at FIFF and took home our Best Comedy Short award.

Since then, the film has earned an Oscar nomination for Live Action Short Film at the 98th Academy Awards, taking place this Sunday, March 15.

Truly inspiring for the independent film community, and we’re wishing their team the very best!

With 2026 underway, the FIFF Team is moving forward with an ambitious projects. We’ve been fortunate to receive a grant to create a short film this spring and summer, and we’re already deep into production. Following that, we’ll host our annual film festival on August 1-2, before moving directly into production on a feature film this fall and winter.

With this demanding schedule, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone our annual programs: the State 48 Hour Film Project, Documentary Lab, and the Northern Arizona Film Society. We look forward to bringing these beloved programs back in 2027.

We also have bold ambitions for the years ahead and are currently seeking passionate individuals to help shape the future of our nonprofit film festival, especially those connected to Arizona or our Flagstaff community, to join our team and support fundraising, event coordination, technology, media, and marketing. Prior board experience is welcome but not required, and board members may serve remotely.

This year, the Desperado LGBTQ+ Film Festival was forced to cancel its annual event in direct response to the President’s executive order. Hosted by a student organization at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, Desperado has been a strong source of q***r visibility in the area.

In response, NewFest, the organization behind the New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival, will provide Arizona residents with free virtual access to a curated selection of 100+ films from their upcoming 37th Annual New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival October 9-21, 2025.
