It was a great day out at Bulow State Park helping restore their trails out there. We were glad to offer assistance to our parks and get the youth involved with our natural trails and environments. Bulow State Park has some of the most pristine and interesting trails to hike.

We are glad to share a petition currently advocating for and supporting the protection and conservation of the land on Bulow Creek. Forever Flagler stands behind the proposed concept of acquiring the land through federal funds and help mutually benefit all parties that have been involved in this dispute. We hope for anyone to sign this petition and to share, helping rally more support behind our mission to preserve Flagler.

Preserve Flagler County, Flagler Beach, and Bulow Creek!

A visit on Bulow Creek via kayak can reveal some of the most beautiful wilderness Flagler has to offer. From the bending and twisting curves of the creek to the swaying palms dangling above the water, Bulow provides a serene and tranquil environment that echoes the past history of Florida. A variety of birds such as red-shouldered hawks, ospreys, wood storks, great egrets, and anhingas were seen. The creek also holds both freshwater and saltwater fish, due to the complex brackish features of the waterway. We recommend anyone who has the chance to visit the creek at Bulow Plantation Ruins State Park.

We are glad and grateful for the decision by the Bunnell City Commission. The rejection of the development's Open Space reduction appeal regarding the Haw Creek Development emphasises the power the local government has over land management. We hope this sets a precedent for other cities and county decisions over the concession given to developments at the expense of the local community. By putting the interest of the community in front of the development, it helps ensure mutual cooperation and benefit both sides.

The 8,000-home development called Reserve at Haw Creek in Bunnell may proceed, but it will have to respect the city's minimum requirement of 60 percent of open space. Rejecting a developer's claim that his due process was violated or his veiled threat to build more apartment buildings if his request...

We believe this project has gone under the radar for most people in Flagler. The proposed development of The Preserve/Reserve at Haw Creek is at a very staggering size, and there are fears about what it could do to the neighboring homes and environment. We believe it is in everyone's best interest to monitor this situation. An appeal to the rezoning will be sent to the city commission requesting a lower open space requirement, and the developer wishes to increase part of the unit count. We hope the City Commission of Bunnell affirms the decision made by the Planning and Architectural Board and continues to help turn this development into a positive good, and to limit the damage it might afflict to the natural land there. Our organization is hoping to learn more about this situation and continue to help inform others. The meeting is scheduled 12/23 this Monday at 7:00 PM at 1769 East Moody Boulevard.

The developer of the proposed Preserve at Haw Creek, a 2,800-acre development west of Bunnell that would dwarf the city in size and population, has raised the number of dwellings from 5,000-to 6,000 in a May presentation to 6,000 to 8,000 now, and is asking the city to lower the minimum required ope...

When regarding the Veranda Bay Annexation, the lack of studies, research, and evaluations presented to the public has brought up many questions. Currently, the State has made objections towards the cities lack of impact studies. But, within the Veranda Bay Proposal Packet, which was submitted many months ago, the only environmental study (see below) which documented the species of animals located on the property appears to lack a massive amount of animals which are most certainly located there. The list seems to be missing coyotes, bobcats, wild boar, alligators, turkeys, and ospreys, just to name a few. A huge variety of aquatic birds are also absent, along with many more avian species. Unfortunately, the development wishes to proceed without these questions answered, and it’s hard to support something that is being so quickly rushed. We believe many would appreciate a study by the state published for the public to see exactly the environment that is at risk here. We know one trip on Bulow Creek can give you a good idea.

Florida is developing at a rapid rate, and with that brings endless destruction to our natural wildlife. What many may defend as the “Cost of Progress”, we believe as the Product of Expansion. Growth for the sake of growing, a concept we believe is not in line with the prospects of future generations. We hope our community continues to support the preservation of our local culture, and the protection of our natural landscape. It conserves our quality of life, while not depriving us of economic stability. It ensures methodic planning, where expansion happens slowly, allowing time for our communities to adjust. The rapid development we see becomes incompatible when done so rashly, and we stress the importance of our local governments integrity and efficiency. Let us not lose our Old Florida, but let us take it into the future for the generations to come.

“Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell.” -Edward Abbey

Coastal habitat has been on a dramatic decrease within the past several decades, and it should be time to prioritize saving these environments rather than letting them be destroyed by more development. Due to the natural draw and value of coastal property, these tasks have been hard, but we stand behind Whitney Labs in regards to this potential development in Marineland. They have made repeated attempts, according to this article, to buy the property which is threatened to be developed. Consisting of coastal hammock and palmetto scrub, it would be in the best interests of the beach-side community to protect the natural aspect of our coastal barrier island. We hope for the community to keep engaged and support Whitney Labs hopes to acquire the land to be protected.

The University of Florida's Whitney marine laboratory has been trying to purchase land to expand its mission. Developers have other plans.

It takes our community to make change. The presence of so many people here tonight showed we care about this city and it's future. With the vote tabled to another meeting, it gives us time to negotiate and work out a plan that will benefit Flagler Beach. Everyone should still stay engage and look forward to coming to the next meeting sometime in January.
