WHAT WE DO

Dining for Hunger exists for two reasons: To end food insecurity and food waste. Founded in December 2017, our members, all volunteers, work countless hours each year to help organizations serving food-insecure families. According to Feeding America, in the U.S., one in nine people struggle with hunger. ABOUT US
In 2017, more than $50 million was raised by candidates and outside groups

in Georgia for a special election to fill what was then an obscure House seat. Just one percent of that money - $500,000 – would have fed countless families in Massachusetts. That same year, “Wasted – “The Story of Food Waste,” produced by the late Anthony Bourdain, aired for the first time. The film detailed the 1.3 billion tons of food that is thrown into the garbage each year. With those events in mind, Bruce Coulter and Tracy Sladen founded Dining for Hunger, an organization dedicated to ending food insecurity. In 2018, Dining for Hunger raised $5,000. The Spanish American Center and Ginny’s Helping Hands, both of Leominster, received $2,500. After taking 2019 off to decide our best course of action to assist local organizations and food-insecure families, DFH volunteers entered 2020 with a renewed vigor. Our optimism for a successful year was cut short by COVID-19, as restaurants closed their doors and large gatherings were no longer possible during the pandemic. We remain optimistic for 2022 and will continue to expand our reach to help food-insecure families.

Hunger does not know race, religion or color. It impacts our neighbors no matter who they are, how they worship, or where they come from.
