Free Streaming of Local Documentary Film
Ideal for home or classroom viewing!

We are excited to share the timeless, inspiring story of Marion Stoddart, a woman who fought to clean up the Nashua River in Massachusetts in the 1960s and 70s. Sue Edwards has arranged for free streaming of the film she produced: "Marion Stoddart: The Work of 1000."

The film is available for free streaming now through June 2023 on Vimeo. All you need to do is create a Vimeo account to watch it. Here's the link & password:

Degrowth and the Green New Deal
Wednesday, March 15
4:00 p.m. EDT on Zoom

Andrew Ahern, an ecological organizer, freelance writer, and public educator based in Boston, will present this overview on the concept of degrowth: what it is, why it's necessary, and how we can start implementing degrowth. As the world, and our watershed, face shared challenges such as climate change, droughts and floods, considering a diversity of ideas, large and small, is important to the conversation on problem solving. Ahern describes his presentation this way: “In an era when demands made on our natural ecosystems exceed their capacity to regenerate, and billions of individuals are without the proper means of survival, degrowth is a radical reconceptualization of our economy and society. While calls for a Green New Deal have changed the conversation on the climate crisis, it is clear that current Green New Deal's do not go far enough to achieve ecological sustainability and global justice. Degrowth offers not simply an alternative to Green New Deal proposals, but a supplement to what the Green New Deal lacks. This talk will push us towards a new terrain when it comes to the Green New Deal discourse: a Degrowth Green New Deal.” Join us for this conversation. Register for this program on Zoom.

This talk is co-sponsored by the Nashua River Watershed Association and the Nashua, Squannacook, and Nissitissit Rivers Wild and Scenic Stewardship Council.

Welcome! You are invited to join a meeting: Degrowth and the Green New Deal with Andrew Ahern. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the meeting.

Nip the Knotweed without Chemicals
Invasive Japanese Knotweed, also called Mexican Bamboo because
of its hollow stems, is taking over riverbanks, hillsides, along roadsides and other disturbed soils. It spreads through roots &
rhizomes, cuttings and seeds, crowding out native species and
desired ornamental plants.
This 3-step organic control process, followed over 3 years, can knock back the Knotweed while you reintroduce and reestablish natural ecosystems

l. Cut at Base
2. Bag & Dispose
3. Plant Natives!

Do these 3 steps 3 times each summer to starve back the plants.
Cut in May/June, July and August before bloom, before nutrients from leaves are sent to the roots for next year's growth.

The Fitchburg Greenway Committee

The Fitchburg Greenway Committee is a partnership between local environmental organizations, public agencies, educators, businesses, cultural groups and ordinary citizens. We share a common interest in advocating for the protection, preservation, restoration and responsible use of Fitchburg's water resources, open space, natural habitat, riverfront lands, and recreational trails.

We encourage others who share our interests in the understanding, appreciation, and support for Fitchburg's water resources, open space, natural habitat and recreational trails to join us in our work. This is a free, volunteer organization open to all. We have been meeting on the third Thursday of each month. Contact one of our members listed on back for more information.
