Legacy Family,
Communities across Hamilton County and Central Indiana are now beginning to assess the consequences of the recent significant flooding that has left families with damaged homes, lost belongings, and a great deal of cleanup ahead of them.
The Board of Elders and the Global Outreach (GO) Committee encourage you to consider ways that you could serve our neighbors and communities. There are different ways to do so:
1. International Disaster Emergency Service (IDES), the local organization with whom we often assemble Food Packs, is coordinating a response in Noblesville, Pendleton, Anderson, and surrounding areas. If you would like to personally help, the needs are many. Volunteers should first register individually through the IDES system at IDES.volunteerlocal.com. Then, IDES will send you the specific information you need, including where and when to report. Volunteers will be assigned to cleanup work such as debris removal and mucking out damaged homes. For those unable to volunteer in person, financial gifts are another important way to help. Donations to IDES support the supplies, equipment, cleanup assistance, and other resources needed for the disaster response.
2. Pray for the many families who have been affected by the flooding, as well as the volunteers who are assisting with the cleanup.
While ordinarily LBC would have organized the collection of donated goods for victims, we’ve learned that the organization coordinating the collection of donated goods at the Hamilton County Flood Relief Reception Center (called SERVE Village) just announced that it has paused physical flood-related donations because it has reached capacity.
