🎃 Trunk or Treat is Just ONE Week Away! 🍬🚗

The countdown is on! In just one week, we'll be gathering at our Fishers Office for an evening of treats, costumes, community, and fun.

But that's not all! This year's event will also feature information about OPG resources, services, and opportunities to get connected. Whether you're a person supported, family member, employee, or community partner, it's a great chance to learn more about what's available and meet members of the OPG team.

Workplace accommodations are part of creating better work environments... and better work environments mean less turnover, stronger recruitment, higher productivity, and superior quality products and customer service.

Accommodations can be as simple as:
- Adjusting a schedule
- Changing how instructions are provided
- Allowing additional training time
- Modifying a workstation
- Using assistive technology
- Reorganizing certain tasks
- Providing a quieter workspace

Creating a workplace where people feel valued and supported enough to do their best work is good business.

This week we will be highlighting employment stories and celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

Meet Mason! Before beginning employment services with Opportunities for Positive Growth (OPG), Mason worked fewer than 10 hours per week at a job he didn’t enjoy.

In September 2023, Mason began working as a Production Worker at a local screen-printing company. Today, he works at least two full days each week, and his employment has helped open the door to exciting opportunities beyond the workplace!

Mason has been able to travel to Disney World on his own, attend sporting events, and is now in the process of building his very own tiny home!

Mason’s story is a wonderful reminder that meaningful employment is about more than a job. It can create opportunities for independence, new experiences, and pursuing personal dreams.

We’re proud to celebrate Mason and his journey toward a life filled with connection, opportunity, and possibility!

Shout out during National Disability Employment Awareness Month!

A special shout-out to Madi R. for helping a person supported pursue an employment opportunity in the field she studied and loves! With Maddie’s guidance and preparation, she successfully completed two interviews and impressed the interview team, finishing as one of the top three candidates! 🎉

Although she wasn’t selected for this position, this is an incredible accomplishment that reflects her hard work, determination, and the meaningful support Madi provided throughout the process.

👏 We’re celebrating both of you! This is what inclusive employment is all about: supporting people to pursue their interests, share their talents, and work toward their dreams.

Building a more inclusive workforce starts with connection! 💙

In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the Fishers Advisory Committee on Disability hosted a breakfast bringing together employers and providers to discuss employment opportunities for people of all abilities. Mayor Fadness kicked off the event, setting the stage for an important conversation about inclusion, opportunity, and meaningful employment in our community.

We were proud to have Scott M., Employment Specialist, participate on the panel and share examples of how people can navigate the job search process with support through Vocational Rehabilitation and waiver funding.

We also celebrate Michelle S., a member of the Advisory Committee and co-chair of the Employment Subcommittee, for her commitment to advancing employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
