Many Fisher alumni, along with most Fisher residents, are aware of the substandard condition of the local school’s facilities surrounding the football field, namely the track, press box, and bleachers. Anyone who has competed on the rock-strewn cinder track or practiced on the dilapidated jumps, approaches, and runways will certainly sympathize, as will those who have stood knee-deep in black dust
to watch a football game because the view from the lower half of the bleacher seats is blocked by players, cheerleaders, and passersby. Add to those concerns the generally unattractive nature of the site, and it becomes clear that the facility is past due for renovation. Discussions for such costly modernization have surfaced inside and out of the school district for years, but the funding and/or leadership were not in place. A committee consisting of alumni, former teachers and coaches, parents of current Fisher students, and other interested parties has been formed to raise money for this long overdue project. The end result will include a state of the art eight-lane all-weather track, a 500-seat elevated permanent seating structure, and a new press box. The benefits of such a project are numerous, too numerous to discuss fully here. Suffice it to say school and community pride, the possibility for student and community fitness, attractiveness of Fisher’s school facilities leading to community growth, and most important, competitive opportunities for Fisher junior and senior high athletes will be greatly enhanced.
