Gaining Ground to Flight 629 Memorial, Mainliner Denver
Year 2024
We shared the frustration at times of not yet having the land for the Memorial. We're human, we get down in spirit but always with a turn around. It began with two of us encouraging the other as needed.. We have felt many doors shut, but always with a new forward movement. As Greg continued to meet Becky in Weld County on any weekend as time allowed, this time after a board meeting in Firestone. We planned on searching the area a bit. But Greg, knowing we had deadlines he changed up the day. He drove away from our search from Bear Foot Park in Weld County and drove us up to work in a library in Estes Park. We quickly wrote out the mission statement on 8/24/24. We had lunch and both headed down 1-25 to go home. That was a break and the change of scenery we needed to complete the work and plan for a concert. Becky can in her intensity push through, but Greg has other ways to get results. It was another full day but the scenery helped.
On a different day after meeting at the Hopp’s they looked at churches in Firestone. Becky wanted to stop, pull aside, give thanks and sanctify. As they neared the crash site Becky called Greg in his car and asked him if he could pull over off of 66 and Bearfoot Parkway by a grouping of trees. "I believe it was in front of the Hopp’s land,”remembered Becky. Knowing Greg would need to leave shortly - If delayed, he would hit traffic. Both Becky and Greg had put over 1500 miles (Greg many more) in 2024 meeting and searching for this memorial.
They both turned off their cars and stood on the actual land. Becky asked if they could pray a minute standing in the dirt. Greg agreed, and paused to let her go ahead and start. “God, this is your assignment you have given us. It belongs to you, your project and property. We surrender this process to you. If you want this, we trust you will make it happen. Every door has been closed and we do not see as humans walking this earth how or where we will land, but you know!" It looks like we have no option to get on this actual piece of property.
They then asked God also to remove the trauma of the plane explosion and the pieces coming down and to help those who are still working with us that saw the horrific sights, to receive more healing.
We thank GOD for giving us the opportunity to serve Weld County and Colorado and asked Him to open up more eyes to see this forgotten story.
Becky stood there asking God to bless our endeavors and bring it to fruition. Greg always adds as he calls this God’s sacred piece of land where healing will come. "They poured the oil on the ground and sanctified with their prayers."
It’s good to set the land apart from the evil acts and shut it down and call it good. People whose lives were taken had families that loved them, miss them. We hope many will come and reflect & heal here someday!
Becky and Greg then drove separate directions. Becky knowing Greg had 2 hours to get home.
The 629 Board are thankful for Greg who drives farther and both sacrifice time as they come to search Weld County as they keep pushing this mission forward.
We had heard stories of the Canadian firm in the lakes area wanting nothing to do with us (Flight 629 Memorial) by others who had tried to get a park and small Memorial. Becky even went and spent an afternoon going from one builder to the next, talking to the different companies to no avail. They were selling undeveloped land to other land developers on where the plane fell.
Greg and Becky were again seeking advice with Mayor Don. This time he suggested they go talk to the Fire Chief at Frederick-Firestone, Jeremy Young. The Mayor mentioned at one point he had a friend who wanted to do a memorial for the first responders. We had not even thought further than the victims, as we were surrounded with their stories. But the 1st responder concept tied into our story along with the 400 in the community that had came on that field that night; the eye witnesses and citizen responders before the 1st responders. Note: These were the days of party lines.
July 19, 2024 we met Chief Jeremy Young for lunch and became acquainted in all that the Chief does within his job at Frederick Firestone Fire District. He is a joy to be around and a caring person. Fire Chief Young is a genuine and kind man. Becky told Greg that this man is such a forerunner in what he does for his men. Over time he would call us and put us in when his calendar allowed. Were we being vetted? Becky remembers a phone call with many questions.
FLIGHT 629 MEMORIAL NOW HAS A HOME TO HONOR
THE FIRST RESPONDERS AND THE 44 FAMILIES!!
So here we are now with our sign on that piece of property of Frederick Firestone Fire District. God answered an impossible situation with a miracle as we now sit on the actual land of the crash! We are near what was the Hopp’s family home land. We had no idea the fire district would host us where no one else would or could!
So that is how God answered with a MIRACLE STORY! How else could this be? Only God directed the heart of the FFF to put us on their Fire District Land? We have such respect for the Fire Chief, his board and their answers to our prayer with their vision as we join hands in honoring the 44 and the 1st Responders!
Hang on, we have many more ongoing stories to what we will be sharing.
