Thanks to Greg Sorenson who spent the entire weekend fabricating both Freight Doors for the Finlayson NP Depot. They look great!! All that is needed now is some primer, paint and trim. Then they will be ready to be hung giving the depot that fresh new look. Thanks again Greg giving up your weekend.

Just a few looks of the Indian Red painted Northern Pacific Combination Depot in Finlayson, Minnesota. The Bottle Green trim needs to be tackled next as well as putting in the door on the east-south side of the building. Thanks to all the comments from the various groups that are following our progress.

Continuing with the restoration of Finlayson's Northern Pacific Depot. Anyone who has painted knows that trim work is slow and labor intensive. Try doing that on a depot that has eaves and facia boards 20+feet high. The roof drip edge, eaves and facia boards now have the bottle green color painted. Ken and Matt are moving along with great progress.

The next phase of the restoration of Finlayson's NP Depot is to protect the white pine board and batten siding. Ken and Matt Dittberner are busily prepping the depot by first cleaning and caulking any open cracks/holes and then painting a primer before final paint color is applied. Bob, the painter dog, gives a paws up approval.

We need your help.

With the depot siding near completion, we need to build new freight doors. We are having a hard time finding 3" tongue and groove lumber. We need 30, 3" x 9' and 30, 3" by 7' board pieces. Alternatively, 6” or 8" car siding would work too. If anyone knows where we can find this material, please contact Greg Sorenson on 218-393-0413 or comment below.

On another note, we are also looking for detailed pictures of a semaphore tower plus a detailed picture of a depot platform mail hook. We have the semaphores but need to find an original style tower. If you have a good, detailed picture, please respond in the comments below or contact Greg as well.

We are thinking of having another history roundtable. Like before we would like to get folks that grew up here and have memories of the railroad, depot, businesses, schools and general information on the area. Each session will be 2-3 hours long with 3 or 4 people in each session. They will be video recorded, and then edited into stories we can share in the depot when it is done. If you are interested in joining us, please respond here or feel free to call me at 218-393-0413. Thank you.

As the saying goes, "that's a wrap"... at least for the Finlayson Northern Pacific Combination Depot. The crew of R&R Contractors, LLC of Mora, MN finished tearing off the south side wooden siding and boarded window yesterday. They then installed the new white pine timber boards and newly fabricated window completing the south side. With the trim boards added around the perimeter of the building, the depot has a new look. The battens still need to be installed and a few finishing touches before the building is ready to received primer and paint. Stay tuned everyone.
