This morning we had the pleasure of welcoming Ashley Pester from Hope House as a new member. Congratulations, Ashley!

Our speaker, Carol Metzger, CEO of Cancer Patient Services of Hancock County, shared the excitement of celebrating their 80th Anniversary this year. She gave some historical knowledge and how the organization has grown and changed to best serve cancer patients who live or work in the community.

She also explained the effects of a cancer diagnosis on not only physical health, but mental health as well on the patient and their families.

Carol shared ways to get involved. Visit the website, cancerpatientservices.org for more information.

Following her presentation the club was pleased to present her with a donation from the Rotary Derby Gala event.

Our group was proud to host the final round of Van Buren Middle School’s Amazing Shake competition this morning! The students participated in our meeting, eating breakfast with us and participating in trivia. Then each student came up front and spoke about what leadership means to them and how they have been leaders to their peers. At the end of the meeting, each Rotarian filled out a scorecard on all three students. The winner was sixth grader Rikki Sattler. Second place was Camila Ortega, and third was Tommy Heintzelman.

Getting to spend our morning with these impressive students was a great start to our day.

Make it a great week!
