Learning is a big part of what happens in our club, and today we heard about another group of lifelong learners, The Findlay Symposium. The group has a 137-year history in this community of organizing literary topics and presentations on relevant big-picture topics. Today, our club learned not only what the Lima Symphony Orchestra offers to concertgoers, but also about powerful programs the Orchestra presents in the region, such as Symphony Storytime and Healing Through Music. Well done Elizabeth Brown-Ellis, Chief Executive Officer of the Orchestra and her team of musical difference makers!

Let's go Findlay! Football season officially kicked off at our club's Wednesday meeting, as Findlay High coach Stefan Adams and University of Findlay coach Tyler Johns spoke about their upcoming season. See Adams and the Trojans as they kick off their season at home tonight at 7 p.m. at Donnell Stadium. The Oilers' first home game is Saturday, Sept. 12 at noon, also at Donnell. Good luck to them and to all the local teams!

Matt Gilroy, Executive Director of Findlay-Hancock County Economic Develop, gave an interesting address during Wednesday's meeting on economic prospects in our area. It was encouraging to hear about all that is going on in the area, and all we hope will happen in the future.

Members of the Findlay Afternoon Rotary Club, Findlay Kiwanis Club and Findlay Young Professionals teamed for "A Dash of Kindness" toward City Mission. For the second-straight year, members of these clubs collected spices to help offset the costs for City Mission. Last week, these spices were delivered to City Mission alongside representatives from the groups. The Blanchard River Watershed Partnership was the topic of this week's meeting, as representatives discussed their organization's mission of promoting the health of the watershed. President Irvin Reinhart stands with Tricia Valasek, Rotarian and Executive Director of Raise the Bar Hancock County. The Club donated $5,000 to Raise the Bar through its Forward Fund.

Rotary Club members were treated to hearing the insights of Judge Jack Zouhary, Senior United States District Judge. Zouhary's information and views on current judiciary matters and beyond were engaging and interesting. President Irvin Reinhart stood with Judge Zouhary for a quick pic after the meeting!

Today's Rotary speaker was Craig Aukerman, a McComb native and University of Findlay graduate. Aukerman, the Special Teams Coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons, spoke about the Aukerman Family Foundation. According to its website, the foundation is dedicated to positively impacting local youth by providing scholarships to college-bound students and sponsoring programs that strengthen family relationships through sports. Aukerman has also coached for the Broncos, Jaguars, Chargers, Titans, Dolphins and at a number of universities.
