"The Lazarus Rescue was started in 2008 in memory of Lazarus Ulysses Baird, a blue-cream tabby and the last member of my first rescue litter found on my family farm in 1989. Lazarus would be the grudgingly affectionate papa, mentor, and idol of at least 6 more rescued kittens in his 19 years. Lazzi would always be interested in what mewling baby I had brought home and always handled them with care
, even if they were annoying him. Every new kitty loved Lazzi and would present their heads to him to be licked, and even though he would try to ignore them as he got older, he always ended up licking their head a few times and then giving them a 'now get outta here, kid!' look, but the kittens would just curl up next to him and go to sleep. Lazzi was my special 'Kitty Man' and through the Lazarus Rescue he has already been a part of finding homes for over one-hundred-fifty kitties and assisted with the medical needs of sick or injured cats and dogs." -Lori Baird, founder
