Ethan’s Legacy Project

Ethan’s Legacy Project We are an all-volunteer nonprofit startup in Putnam County, Indiana. We all can do things to help build that community.

The mission of Ethan’s Legacy Project is to equip & encourage each person to take part —be the spark—in building the Putnam County we want for our children when they experience emotional distress, mental illness, addiction, self harm, and loss. ABOUT US

We are an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Putnam County, Indiana, founded in loving memory of, and continually inspired by, Ethan Carter Ame

s, our kindhearted brother, son, and friend, who was taken by su***de. Our vision is to build a strong and resilient community for our children where they are always supported and never ashamed; where they are equipped to help themselves and each other through their darkest moments; where, no matter what they face, they won’t have to do it alone; and where they will not be defined only by their suffering, but also by the courage, grit, and determination with which they faced it. Each one of us is capable of sparking something that brings it a little closer. And all of our contributions, all of our sparks, taken together, can revolutionize how we think about, talk about, and treat our friends, neighbors, and family members experiencing emotional distress, addiction, and self-harm. WHAT WE DO

We create opportunities for local folks to share their lived experiences so that others can better know our community and perhaps see they’re not alone. We provide clear and concise information directly to individuals and at easily accessible places so that finding help can be as fast and simple as possible. Wherever and however we can, we try to support those who are hurting, such as lending an ear, connecting them to assistance, or delivering “comfort boxes” to families living through the unthinkable. We continue to listen, learn, grow, and collaborate so we can best serve Putnam County for a long time to come. DONATIONS

We use donated funds to organize and participate in community events, publish resources, print informational material, provide comfort boxes, conduct outreach, and send out communications. LEARN MORE

Grief comes in many forms.
The death of a loved one, losing a close friend, or even experiencing a major life change can all trigger grief. Loss isn’t always about death, it can also come from losing a job, stability, shelter, or long-standing routines.

Some people adjust quickly, others need more time and support to heal. Aug 30 is National Grief Awareness Day,…take a moment to reflect on those in your life who may be carrying grief, and remind them (and yourself) that it’s okay to seek help, take time, and heal at your own pace.
