On June 19th, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas with news that the Civil War was over and that enslaved people were free. The Emancipation Proclamation had been signed more than two years earlier, but the word hadn't reached Texas. When it finally did, people celebrated in the streets.

That's where Juneteenth comes from. And that spirit of celebration has been at the center of it ever since.

Connect Ferndale is hosting a community cookout today at Pioneer Park North Shelter from 1 to 4 PM to mark the day. There will be free bites from Battle's Kitchen, but feel free to bring your own food too. Come out, share a meal, and be part of what Juneteenth has always been about.

🛍️ WE WANT YOUR PLASTIC BAGS!

Our clothing bank is running low on bags and you can help! If you've got a stash of plastic bags at home taking up space in a drawer (you know the one), we'd love to put them to good use.

Drop them off at the Ferndale Community Resource Center, Monday through Thursday from 9 AM to 5 PM, and help us keep clothes moving to the neighbors who need them.

A small donation that makes a real difference. Thank you! 💚

If you haven't heard of the Ferndale Youth Collective, check them out! We are so excited to have this new non-profit coming to life in our city! And they have started a fundraising campaign with a couple of amazing partners who are matching dollars. Check them out, give if you can, and support this dream to have a safe and welcoming space for youth in Ferndale!

**Updated Date**

Law Advocates had to move up the date a week for their North Whatcom Civil Legal Clinic for June. They are going to be here tomorrow, June 4th, instead of next week on the 11th. If you have any civil legal issues that you'd like to speak to an attorney about, come on out for a consultation!

Our community has been incredibly generous with donations — so generous that we need a few extra hands (at least!) to help us sort through it all.

This month we're sorting and prepping items for the FernDale of a Sale — a big community yard sale happening in Ferndale. FCS will be there selling donated goods, with all proceeds going directly back into our programs and services. It's a good way to see exactly how your time connects to something tangible in the community.

If you can spare a Saturday morning, we'd love to have you.

Saturday, June 20th — 10 AM to 1 PM
2116 Main St, Ferndale
