Uh oh!
Several Chevrolet Corvettes have spontaneously burst into flames — prompting General Motors to recall more than 23,000 of the iconic sports cars over a refueling defect that can ignite spilled fuel. The recall covers certain Corvette Z06 and ZR1 models from the years 2023 until 2026, some of which cost more than $100,000. This issue right here isn’t the case with refueling defects as this particular Corvette is a regular C8 Corvette Stingray.
This Man was running his 2023 C8 at Thompson speedway in CT along with another C8 owner while trying to set a speed record. He unfortunately had some bad luck, engine had catastrophic failure, hole in block somewhere as there were pieces of the rods and pistons on the track. The back of the car burned up from a very significant fire. Luckily, he got out with no injuries. This is a 2023 70th anniversary HTC with about 5k miles with all proper track maintenance.
Although we still do not know the exact main cause of this mishap of this C8 Corvette as the owner kept the cause disclosed. The owner reaches out to GM to find out the exact root to the cause, they came right out and said that there are things that GM needs to keep confidential but that after the buyback, they’ll have the car shipped to their engineers for further analysis. The owner regardless is just happy for the fact that GM is stepping up and making this situation right.
Do you guys think ruining the rear bumper on a C8 Corvette for setting a speed record was worth it?
