Progressive, participatory & whole-heartedly inclusive Jewish community. Reconstructing Judaism 🌱

We are a progressive, participatory, and wholeheartedly inclusive Jewish community in Metro Detroit. Our Judaism is expansive and constantly evolving - a living tradition that both shapes us and is shaped by us. Through shared ritual, study, and spiritual practice, we pursue personal growth, collective resilience, and a more just world. We are affiliated with Reconstructing Judaism (the Reconstructionist movement) and the Synagogues Rising network.

Moadim L'Simcha! ✨ This festive time has surely been a portal towards joy for us... Thank you to our fabulous Avodah Committee for arranging our first-ever Sukkot Sleepover/Shabbaton, housed at Huckleberry Gardens in Detroit! 🌿 🍋 ⛺

Davening/prayer, learning (pictured: Kelsie leading a session on the basics of sofrut/Hebrew calligraphy), lashev-ing ba-sukkah, and - thanks to Julie R - llamas!

What a delightful way to help the insights of Yom Kippur integrate into our bodies!

Round out the new year with joyful dancing, as we roll our way back to the beginning! 📜 🌀 🎶

All are welcome – RSVP below if you wish to join!

We take the spiritual highs of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur and integrate them into our bodies through the practice of Sukkot. 🌿🍋

Come out (and camp out?) for a special Shabbat(on) at Huckleberry Gardens in Detroit. Come for whichever bits you can – or stay with us for a spacious Shabbat in and around the sukkah!

P.S. Julie R will be bringing her llama buddies Oakley and Hank on Shabbat afternoon! 🦙

(These events are in-person only, and there will be no services at FUMC this week.)

"By the authority of all of congregate above and below...
We accept into our midst whoever seeks to pray.
Whether righteous or unrighteous, all shall pray as one community."

This Shabbat is called Shabbat Shuva, the Shabbat of Returning. 🌀🌀🌀

After Shacharit/Morning Prayer on Saturday 10 am - 12 pm, Esther Grace Witte will lead a Brunch & Learn session on how journaling can be a helpful tool for our High Holiday practices of reflection, repentance, repair, and renewal.

During the session, we’ll use free-writing, free-drawing, and other techniques to investigate the meaning of "teshuvah" in our own experience.

After your Shabbat return, plan to return again (and again, and again) as Yom Kippur begins on Sunday night!

Teshuvah, tefilah and tzedakah — relational repair, prayerful practice, and righteous giving — are said to soften the harsh decrees our world faces. ❤️‍🩹

We are honored to once again join Jews for Food Aid for People in Gaza and Rodfei Shalom / Rabbis4Ceasefire in the campaign to raise funds for the holy work of the Gaza Soup Kitchen 🍉.

We invite you to join us in this small act of repair, in response to catastrophic harm. Find the link in the Jews for Food Aid for People in Gaza bio!

One of the delights of Yom Kippur at T'chiyah is getting to explore its various hues through different approaches to creativity and contemplation. ✨

Check out our suite of Yom Kippur afternoon workshops, lovingly curated by our Limmud Committee. Gmar chatimah tovah – may we all experience a complete inscription in the Book of Life, justice, liberation and transformation!

(And really, if powerful prayer is your thing, you don't want to miss Ne'ilah!)
