Some of the best memories of my very young childhood are dangling my feet in the cool water of Ruth Lake, CA. I’d ask my father, Kenny Burns, if we could check the bobber to see if we caught a fish, with him responding for the 100th time that we can't catch a fish if we don't leave the hook in the water. Or the times we hung around a campfire, listening to the adults tell tall tales of their hunting and fishing adventures, ending in belly laughs and the audience's general suspicion of hyperbole expressed in two words I nor my brothers were allowed to repeat. These are the memories that hooked me into the outdoors, and these are the memories I hope to extend to kids and families who want to have those experiences, or at least have the opportunity to decide if the outdoors are for them or not.
I’ve been lucky enough to purchase property near Ruth Lake where I’m now able to take my own family and share those same experiences. We’ve begun creating those memories for my kids, and I’m now actively working to figure out how to use our property to support Fishing Camps at Ruth Lake for youth. This is one of my longer term goals, and I believe with support and a little elbow grease, plus insurance, we’ll be able to make it happen. It would provide a base of support for those who don't generally have access to the lake, or the equipment to enjoy fishing. If this is something you’d be interested in supporting, please check out the website, donate, or get involved. I’m very open to ideas and help so please use the Get Involved to send a message and sign up for the newsletter.
