Some of the best memories of my very young childhood are dangling my feet in the cool water of Ruth Lake, CA. I’d ask my father, Kenny Burns, if we could check the bobber to see if we caught a fish, with him responding for the 100th time that we can't catch a fish if we don't leave the hook in the water. Or the times we hung around a campfire, listening to the adults tell tall tales of their hunting and fishing adventures, ending in belly laughs and the audience's general suspicion of hyperbole expressed in two words I nor my brothers were allowed to repeat. These are the memories that hooked me into the outdoors, and these are the memories I hope to extend to kids and families who want to have those experiences, or at least have the opportunity to decide if the outdoors are for them or not.

I’ve been lucky enough to purchase property near Ruth Lake where I’m now able to take my own family and share those same experiences. We’ve begun creating those memories for my kids, and I’m now actively working to figure out how to use our property to support Fishing Camps at Ruth Lake for youth. This is one of my longer term goals, and I believe with support and a little elbow grease, plus insurance, we’ll be able to make it happen. It would provide a base of support for those who don't generally have access to the lake, or the equipment to enjoy fishing. Thank thank you to all our donors and those who purchased T-shirts. We're closing in on our goal of hosting Outdoor Camps that will be free for 18 and under; camping, fishing, hiking, Hunter Safety Courses and more. We're shooting for May timeframe to have a camp up and running. In the meantime, stay tuned for some activities we can achieve in the short term out at Ruth. I'm thinking Kids Trout Tournament?....Let me know if you're interested through our website in the Get Involved tab.

Together we can create a system of support that will open the doors for parents and kids to get outside for free.

Cant thank our early donors enough for helping us get going! We're continuing to build local support here in Ferndale and working to lock down a community meeting where we can get more buy in from those we're looking to directly impact; the parents and kids.

Coming up soon is something our father was passionate, if not complete obsessive about. Brant Season! Begins mid-November. If you or your kids are interested, we'd love to help get you out on the spit and help protect our shoreline from those tasty sea navigating geese. To help the foundation support those who don't have the equipment to enjoy the outdoors, please consider donating. One of our initiatives is to provide the appropriate clothing and gear to our Outdoor Heritage volunteers and participants. Your donation will directly help get and keep kids outside.
