💜 PURPLE HEART DAY 💜
Today, August 7, we pause to honor the courageous men and women who have received the Purple Heart; those wounded in combat and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
The Purple Heart traces its history to August 7, 1782, when General George Washington established the Badge of Military Merit. More than two centuries later, it remains a solemn symbol not of rank of sacrifice.
There is no measure of rank or achievement attached to the Purple Heart. It is earned only through bloodshed in service to our country, a distinction no service member seeks, but one that commands the respect and gratitude of a grateful nation.
To every Purple Heart recipient, and to the families who have shared in the cost of that sacrifice: VFW Byrd-Wallace Post 4351 remembers, honors and thanks you.
Your courage will never be forgotten!
💜 All gave some. Some gave all. 💜
