Angry ocean purging plastic pollution onto the beach. It's our time to shine and pick it up!

🌊THE MARINE DEBRIS IS HERE AND WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🌊

The high winds and tides are bringing plastic and other marine debris onto our beaches, and now is the time to grab it before it makes its way back into the ocean.

🪣 Beach Junki Clean-Up Buckets are available at Main Beach and Seaside Park. Grab a bucket, take a walk and pick up what you can. Every little piece matters!

WHERE SHOULD YOU LOOK?

Look closely in the wrack line. That line of seaweed, driftwood and little bamboo-looking sticks that the tide leaves behind.

Marine debris gets tangled and trapped in the wrack, so look carefully for bottle caps, plastic pieces, straws, wrappers, rope, fishing line, netting and other small pieces of trash.

🌿 Please don't remove the natural wrack! It is an important part of the beach ecosystem and provides food and shelter for wildlife. Just look through it and remove the plastic junk that you find.

🐢 Grab a bucket. Take a walk. Pick up the plastic. Return the bucket when you're finished.

🌧️ The rain may have stopped our beach cleanup, but it definitely didn’t stop our volunteers from showing up!

Even with the rain pouring down, 12 amazing volunteers from the VyStar Yulee branch showed up today ready to make a difference. We weren’t able to get out on the beach and clean like we planned, but the afternoon still turned into something pretty special.

We got to meet new volunteers, share the Beach Junki story, talk about our mission, and share examples of the marine debris we find along our beaches. With nor’easters and hurricanes stirring up the ocean, we also talked about the debris that can wash ashore after these storms and why continuing to care for our coastline matters.

A HUGE thank you to VyStar and their Do Good Program for hosting our 3rd Annual End of Summer Beach Cleanup, and to Surfing’s Evolution for sponsoring this year’s cleanup. We are so grateful for your continued support of Beach Junki and our mission! 💚

And a very special thank you to William, who joined us after his daughter told him about the cleanup. We loved hearing that William has been doing beach cleanups in South Florida from his canoe for the past 40 years! 🛶🌊 What an incredible example of one person making a difference for our waterways and beaches year after year.

The weather may have changed our plans, but it didn’t change the purpose of the day. Sometimes making a difference isn’t measured by how many bags of trash you collect. It’s about showing up, learning, connecting, and inspiring each other to keep protecting the places we love.
