TRAFFIC ALERT: FDOT has announced daytime lane closures and flagging operations next week on the Nassau Sound Bridge on State Road A1A (Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway).

Please note: This is the bridge on the south end of Amelia Island — NOT the Shave Bridge leading onto the island from the mainland via SR 200/A1A.

As part of FDOT's routine bridge maintenance, the following daytime lane closures are planned:

Monday, Aug. 10 & Tuesday, Aug. 11: Northbound lane closure and flagging operations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 12 & Thursday, Aug. 13: Southbound lane closure and flagging operations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

We understand the work begins on the first day of school, however the bridge inspection and maintenance schedule is determined by FDOT. This work cannot be done at night because inspectors need adequate visibility to safely and accurately assess structural conditions.

Drivers should plan ahead, allow extra time to reach their destinations and use additional caution when traveling through the area.

The project involved guest rooms, restaurants, the spa and golf courses at the Nassau County property.
