The Center for Social Empowerment

The Center for Social Empowerment Seeding conversations. Sourcing action. In response, Wellspring Church and its pastor, Rev. Dr. F.

The shooting of an unarmed African-American teenager, by a police officer on August 9, 2014, sparked sustained media attention on the city of Ferguson, Missouri. Willis Johnson, Jr., sought to be a safe place for local justice activists and as well as for necessary dialogue that would echo on radio waves and newspapers across the country. However, a larger effort was needed to establish positive a

nd sustainable change for the local and national community in face of this tragedy. At the intersection of hope and hurt, The Center was officially launched on August 9, 2015. Its presence provides a neighborhood-based facility for urban education, social enterprise, and engagement that focuses on equity, inclusion, and the transformation of public, private, and community systems. Training is also provided to understand how our faith can be applied to the response and management of injustices such as the shooting of Michael Brown and other inequalities plaguing different communities. Thorough these efforts, The Center seeks to promote racial and social equity in its community and yours.
