A Message From the Parks and Recreation Director‼️
I wanted to make the community aware of another incident of vandalism that occurred yesterday at the JW Park restroom facility. As you can see from the attached photo, significant damage was done to one of the restroom fixtures, which will again require costly repairs and staff cleanup time.
As of right now, the facility will remain open with just that urinal being out of order. We will be replacing that porcelain urinal with a stainless steel one, that is a little more costly, but hopefully will not sustain damage as easily.
While we are committed to providing quality park amenities and maintaining accessible restroom facilities for our residents and visitors, the ongoing vandalism occurring in our park bathrooms continues to be a challenge. Each incident results in unplanned repair costs, staff time for cleanup and maintenance, and temporary disruptions to service for park users.
Unfortunately, repeated acts of vandalism place an increasing strain on the Parks and Recreation budget. Funds that could otherwise be used for park improvements, programming, or maintenance are instead being directed toward repairing damage and replacing vandalized equipment.
We will continue to monitor the situation and evaluate options to help deter future incidents. In the meantime, I wanted to ensure that the community was informed of the continued impact these acts are having on park operations and resources.
Thank you for your patience!
