Constituted in Spring 1993, the Graduate Student Senate (GSS) is the graduate student governing body composed of one representative from each degree-granting department or program in the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, as well as graduate students from Engineering and the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. The primary objectives of the GSS are to provide channels of co

mmunication among graduate students, the Dean of the Graduate School, and other members of the University community; to enhance the graduate student experience through professional development programming and social events; and to provide a forum for graduate student concerns. Please feel free to join us at our monthly meetings, which take place each first Tuesday of the month during the academic year at 7pm in the Liberman Graduate Center (DUC 300). All graduate students are invited to join the Association for Graduate Engineering Students (AGES) at their 1st Spring Formal event! The event will feature a live DJ, photo booth, dancing, and a live glass-blowing show on March 23, 2023, from 6-10 pm at Third Degree Glass Factory. On February 23rd, 2023, Steven Pijut, Associate Director of The Writing Center and Speaking Studio, will be leading “The Logistics of Poster Presentations,” a workshop for students interested in presenting at the Graduate Research Symposium. Geared towards students who are unfamiliar with poster presentations but open to all, the workshop will teach students how to design, create, print and set up posters to effectively communicate their research topic, questions, methodologies, and results. The workshop will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Graduate Center (Danforth University Center 300).

On February 9th, 2023, Steven Pijut, Associate Director of The Writing Center and Speaking Studio, will be leading “Workshopping Presentations,” the first of two workshops for students interested in presenting posters at the Graduate Research Symposium. Participants will learn how to make specialized research understandable to a wider academic audience, and the workshop will include opportunities for them to field questions from students in other fields and disciplines. The workshop will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Graduate Center (Danforth University Center 300).

Registration is now open for the 28th Annual Graduate Research Symposium! This event is open to graduate and professional students of all disciplines and fields that seeks to showcase the breadth and depth of graduate research being produced at Washington University. Presenters will be grouped by category or discipline and scored based on the clarity, aesthetics, and content of their posters, as well as their presentation skills. The top three highest-scoring presenters in each category will be awarded cash prizes.
