“Because of it”

Invasive plants might not be spreading in your yard… but it could be spreading BECAUSE of it.

Invasive plants may look harmless in your landscaping, but birds and other wildlife eat the fruit and unknowingly spread the seeds into nearby natural areas.

That means even well-maintained yards can contribute to the spread of invasive species, crowding out native plants and impacting local wildlife.

Homeowners can make a difference:
✔️ Avoid planting invasive species
✔️ Remove existing invasive species
✔️ Choose native alternatives that support birds without spreading harm

Small changes at home can help protect the natural spaces we all enjoy.

The purpose of W**d Wrangle is to educate the public about non-native invasive species. In the end, it is all about native plants. Congratulations Tennessee for declaring April as Native Plant Month… FOREVER and thank you Southeastern Grasslands Institute for being a terrific supporter!

🌻It’s Official! 🌻

April is officially recognized as Tennessee Native Plant Month—now written into law—and it reflects the dedication of so many people working to protect and restore our state’s natural heritage.

This milestone, championed by State Representative Greg Vital, highlights the vital role native plants play in supporting biodiversity, strengthening local economies, and sustaining the landscapes we all depend on.

At the Southeastern Grasslands Institute, we’re proud to stand alongside a broad coalition of partners, advocates, and community leaders whose persistence made this possible—from grassroots organizers to statewide conservation organizations. This achievement is a testament to years of collaboration, education, and on-the-ground stewardship.

We’re especially grateful to leaders like Cayce McAllister and the The Garden Club of America, and Tennessee Native Plant Society whose vision to establish Native Plant Month across the country continues to drive meaningful change.

Native plants are more than just part of our landscape—they are the foundation of healthy ecosystems across Tennessee.

Join us this month in celebrating by learning about, planting, and advocating for the native species that sustain our grasslands and beyond.

Thank you Tennessee Native Plant Society for your support on this important initiative, making April Native Plant Month in Tennessee with major kudos to Greg A Vital for leading the charge!

Great news: April is now “Native Plant Month” in Tennessee. It’s the law!

From the official announcement: “Legislation championed by State Rep. Greg Vital, R-Harrison, permanently designating the month of April as “Tennessee Native Plant Month” … has been signed into law.”
"The legislation highlights the environmental and economic importance of native plant species and encourages Tennesseans to incorporate them into landscapes, gardens and public spaces.”

Thank you, Representative Greg Vital; thank you, Garden Club of Nashville member and W**dWrangle® mover-and-shaker Cayce McAllister; and thank you, Garden Club of America for your ambitious and very much needed goal to get a Native Plant Month established in every state!

Cayce reports that many community partners in Tennessee have helped support this new legislation, including: Tennessee Native Plant Society, Southeastern Grasslands Institute, Keep TN Beautiful, Lyndhurst Foundation, The Land Trust for Tennessee, Tennessee Aquarium, Tennessee Plant Conservation Alliance, Tennessee Invasive Plant Council, W**d Wrangle, Tennessee Naturalist Program, Tennessee Citizens for Wilderness Planning, Tennessee Environmental Council, Tennessee Wildlife Federation, Thrive Regional Partnership, Tennessee Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, TennGreen, all the Wild Ones Chapters in Tennessee, and The Garden Club of America Tennessee Clubs.

Native plants are the foundation of every local ecosystem.
Please thank Representative Vital and the GCA and help spread the word?
And let's all celebrate by observing, growing, buying, planting, learning about, and sharing plants native to our little corners of the world!

Please let your appreciation be known by:
----Thanking Representative Greg Vital ([email protected])
Thanking your local Tennessee Legislator for saying YES to TN House Bill 1738 and TN Senate Bill 2073.
