OCTOBER IS A BIG MONTH FOR OUTREACH 419!

There are a few moving parts this month, so we want to make sure everybody knows where to find us and when.

First, WE ARE STILL OPEN IN FENWICK!

Our regular groups, recovery coaching, wellness activities, Recovery Church and Sober Not Boring will continue at 235 W Fenwick Rd. through October 18.

Beginning October 19, our regular Fenwick programming will pause while our team moves and gets the new Greenville Recovery Community Center ready. Our Certified Peer Recovery Coaches will still be available for one-on-one support during this transition.

And we're not disappearing while we move.

Friday, October 23: We're coming back together in Fenwick for a special Sober Not Boring event.

Then comes the BIG ONE.
Friday, October 30: GRAND OPENING!

Before you attack, ask.

When somebody takes a shot at you, your brain may immediately start loading the cannon.

But what if you paused and asked a question instead?

“What did you mean by that?”

“Were you trying to hurt me?”

“Can you help me understand what you’re actually saying?”

That pause does not make you weak. It gives you enough space to choose your response instead of handing control of it to someone else.

That is the idea behind today’s Ask, Don’t Attack handout, based on Jefferson Fisher’s video, “What to Say When Someone Insults You.”

This can be especially powerful in recovery. When we feel judged, blamed or disrespected, old survival responses can show up fast. Asking a calm question can interrupt that pattern and uncover what is really happening.

Take a look at the attached handout, then tell us:

What makes it hardest for you to stay curious when you feel attacked?

What question could help you slow down the next difficult conversation?

There is no pressure to have the perfect answer. We are interested in what has worked for you, what has not and what you might be willing to try next time.

FRIDAY NIGHT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE BORING JUST BECAUSE YOU’RE SOBER.

First Friday at Sober Not Boring is about good food, real stories, and being around people who get it.

Dinner starts at 5 PM.

At 6 PM, we’ll hear from our First Friday speaker and give someone the opportunity to share their story of recovery.

Then at 7 PM, we’ll wrap up the evening with our All Pathways Open Share.

Come for one part. Come for all three. Bring a friend. Bring the family. Or walk through the door by yourself and meet some new people.

Everything is FREE and open to the community.

WE BROUGHT IT BACK.

A couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to build a recovery resource directory specifically for Montcalm County.

The idea was pretty simple:

If someone needs help, they shouldn't have to know which agency to call, who runs what program, or spend two hours digging through Facebook trying to find a phone number.

They should be able to find help.

So I'm excited to announce that MontcalmRecoveryResources.com is back online, rebuilt, and ready to serve our community.

The site is designed to be a simple place to find local recovery resources, treatment options, support services, meetings, community organizations, and other help available right here in and around Montcalm County.

And here's something that's important to me:

This isn't an Outreach 419 directory.
It isn't a Sober Not Boring directory.
It's a COMMUNITY resource.

If you're doing good work in this county and helping people affected by substance use, recovery, or the challenges that come along with it, we want people to be able to find you.

No competition.

No turf wars.

No "our pathway is better than your pathway."

Just resources.

Because somebody looking for help shouldn't have to understand the recovery ecosystem before they can get help navigating it.
