We meet most Thursday nights starting around 7pm. The First State Model Railroad Club was formally organized on July 9, 1985, to promote the hobby and educate the public on the important part railroads played in the development of the Delmarva region. One of the first goals of the group was to construct an HO scale modular layout depicting the Pennsylvania Railroad in Delaware. This layout was use
d for displays at various public places such as malls and historical events. The first public display by the club was a set up in the Delaware Agricultural Museum on October 26-27, 1985. This remained the club home for a short time. We then moved to the Wyoming Railroad Station where we made many renovations to the building and in which we built what we thought would be a permanent layout. Unfortunately, this was not to be, as the town of Wyoming wanted to use the building as the town hall/police station. Recently, we were offered the use of the former Railway Express Agency building on McKee Road in Dover. This building is ideal for our purposed. It has a large open room for us to set up the modular layout when it is not on public display. There is another where we intend to set up a permanent HO DCC layout. It also has an office area where we hold our meetings. we have installed a wheelchair ramp for easier access for to the building. On January 1, 2022, we completed a move to the Willow Run Community Center on Horsepen Rd., near Willow Grove, due to our previous building being sold in November 2021. In 2003, we started holding a class where boys can earn the Boy Scouts of America Railroading merit badge. As of October 2018 the club has awarded 404 badges to scouts as far north as Glens Falls, NY, as far south as Raleigh, NC, and as far west as Ogden, UT.
