We are a week away from Memorial Day. Please remember the men and women who saw that freedom was worth everything. This weekend we honored the veterans of our community who were laid to rest in St. James AME Cemetery in Frederica, Mt. Olive and Hopkins Cemeteries in Felton. We have a cherished history here and never want to forget their sacrifices. We owe them everything. For as long as we live, the flag that represents our freedom will fly above you.

Thank you Felton! We had a beautiful day for a food drive and so many friendly smiling faces and the waves and car horn t***s! It’s incredible belonging to such a warm community. Next you will find us at the Bowers Buccaneer Bash and the Frederica Farmer’s Market.

Happening today in Felton. Food Drive for the Food Bank of Delaware. Looking to top our 200 pounds of donations last year! Rain or shine look for us under the red white and blue canopy on Main St in Felton at the Odd Fellows Park next to the tracks, across from the fire station.

It was brought to my attention that there are interviews of Richard Adams that are on YouTube. As we approach this Memorial Day it is extra special that we can say our country has enjoyed 250 years of freedom, paid for by the men and women of our armed services. Please listen to his story and remember the selfless sacrifices of all those who wore the uniforms of our armed services.

Lots of people donate foods for the holidays but often forget how difficult the summer months are for people in need. We will be hosting a food drive on May 9 from 9:00am - 3:00pm. We will be collecting goods at the Odd Fellows Park in Felton. It’s located next to the railroad tracks across from the fire station on Main St (Rt 12).

We were asked to take part in the opening ceremony for this year’s Bower’s Beach Buccaneer Bash. This is an incredible honor to be part of this storied tradition and unique celebration. Come out for the food, festivities, and vendors. May 23 and 24 from 10-5 each day, there will be live music from 4-6.
After the ceremony look for our Stars and Stripes canopy, say hello, ask about the programs we support. If you’re a veteran and served in a foreign conflict, find out about membership. We have programs that can assist in paying some of the cost!

May 2 is the official Day of Service for the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Local posts will be engaged in service projects and doing what we do best, taking care of our community. Stay tuned for what your VFW is doing in your area during the month of May. We’ve got a lot planned!

2026-2027 Voice of Democracy audio essay theme “What a Veteran Taught me about America.” The Voice of Democracy Competition is a VFW scholarship program that is open to students in 9th through 12th grade. This is an incredibly under represented scholarship that has a national award of $35,000. There are additional awards that are at post, district, and state levels that will be announced as the competition season gets into full swing. Entries are for eligible students for the 26-27 school year and the deadline for submissions is October 31, 2026.
