Scouts BSA Troop 841, Federal Way & BSA Troop 330 Adventure Weekend

This past weekend, Troop 841 and Troop 330 headed to the beautiful 8-Mile Group Campground along Icicle Creek near Leavenworth for a weekend of camping, hiking, and adventure.

Scouts camped in their patrols, cooked their own meals, and enjoyed a weekend of independence, teamwork, and fun in the outdoors.

On Saturday, we split into two groups:

Our mountain hiking crew tackled the hike to 8 Mile Lake, covering 6.8 miles round-trip and gaining over 1,300 feet in elevation. The effort was rewarded with stunning mountain views and an unforgettable alpine lake.

The rest of the troop visited the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery, followed by a 2.5-mile hike through the local trails before spending the afternoon exploring downtown Leavenworth.

From mountain trails and rushing creeks to salmon, scenery, and small-town charm, it was an amazing weekend filled with adventure, friendship, and memories.

A huge thank you to all of the youth and adult leaders who helped make the trip a success.

This campground may have just become our new favorite. We'll definitely be back!

Warning: Photo dump ahead. 📸

This weekend included mountain hiking, creek crossings, patrol cooking, fish hatcheries, exploring Leavenworth, bicycle riding, campfire laughs, nighttime frisbee, and enough trail miles to earn a good night's sleep.

The best part? Watching Scouts challenge themselves, work together, and have fun outdoors.

Here's a look at everything we packed into one amazing weekend at Icicle Creek.

Troop 841 keeps growing! 🎉⚜️

Tonight we welcomed a new scout to the troop, bringing us to 16 scouts and officially enough youth to organize into 3 patrols!

That means more leadership opportunities, more teamwork, more campfire cooking competitions, and probably more debates about who forgot to pack the patrol dish soap. 😄

It’s exciting to watch our troop continue to grow and see new friendships and adventures forming every week. Welcome to the Troop 841 family — the adventure is just getting started!

Important Announcement 🚨🐻

Due to recent reports of high bear activity, the Wonderland Trail is currently closed.

While we fully support local wildlife enjoying the outdoors… we would prefer scouts NOT become part of the food chain. 😅

Stay safe out there, and happy hiking!

Due to unusual bear activity, the Wonderland Trail is temporarily closed between Narada Falls Trail and Stevens Canyon Road.

As a reminder, If you encounter a black bear:

- Stay calm and alert.
- Do not approach the bear. If the bear is just doing bear things, keep your distance and stand quietly.
- If the bear stops, watches you, or changes direction toward you, you’re too close.
- Back away slowly while facing the bear. Never run.

If a black bear approaches or follows you:

- Stand your ground. Do not run or turn your back.
- Shout and act aggressively to scare it off, and make yourself look big by raising your arms or lifting your trekking poles into the air.
- Throw non‑food objects (like rocks or sticks) at the bear only if necessary.
- Never feed a bear or leave food behind.
- Use bear spray only as a last resort and only if the bear is within 20 yards.

If a black bear attacks you:

-Fight back. Do not play dead.

Service is a big part of Scouting, and this month Troop 841 was proud to assist our charter organization, Thornton F McElroy #302, with their monthly dinner. Our scouts helped set up the tables and chairs before the event and stayed afterward to help break everything down and put it away.

In honor of Memorial Day, the scouts also prepared a Missing Man Table and took a few moments during dinner to read the Missing Man script to the lodge members. It was a meaningful reminder of those who served and those who never made it home.

We are thankful for the partnership and support of T.F. McElroy Lodge #302 and proud of our scouts for continuing the tradition of service, respect, and remembrance. 🇺🇸

Liberty in Action: 250th Anniversary Challenge

Celebrate 250 Years of Freedom with Scouting America

America’s 250th anniversary is more than a milestone — it’s an opportunity to reflect, learn, create, explore, and serve. The Liberty in Action: America’s 250th Anniversary Challenge invites Scouts to connect the ideals of 1776 with the responsibilities of today. Through research, civic engagement, creative expression, historical exploration, and meaningful service, participants honor the past while shaping the future.

This challenge reminds us that liberty, equality, and the pursuit of happiness are not just words in a document — they are lived values strengthened through action. By completing these activities and contributing service through Impact365, Scouts help ensure that America’s founding principles continue to guide communities for generations to come.

Now is the moment to step forward. Reflect on our history. Celebrate the present. Serve for the future.

Today our scouts took time to honor the men and women who served our country by placing flags on the graves of veterans ahead of Memorial Day. 🇺🇸

This meaningful tradition reminds our youth that service, sacrifice, and dedication to our nation should never be forgotten. We are proud of our scouts for showing respect and gratitude to the veterans who came before us.

As you enjoy the holiday weekend, please take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and remember those who served our nation.

🎉 Happy National Scout Day – February 8 🎉

On this day in 1910, the Boy Scouts of America was founded by William D. Boyce—a proud Freemason—with a vision to build character, citizenship, and leadership in young people.

Boyce was joined by two remarkable leaders, both also Masons:
🔹 Daniel Carter Beard, the first National Commissioner of the BSA
🔹 James E. West, who would become the first Chief Scout Executive

Their shared values of service, integrity, and community continue to shape Scouting more than a century later.

Today, Scouts BSA Troops 841 and 330 are honored to carry that legacy forward. We are especially proud to be chartered by Thornton F McElroy #302, whose continued support helps ensure Scouting remains strong for future generations.

Here’s to 116 years of Scouting—building leaders, serving others, and living the Scout Oath and Law. ⚜️
