Tuesday, three of our trustees participated in the North Carolina Veterans Council Legislative Day held in Raleigh, NC. The event commenced with remarks from Commander Tammy Williamson (North Carolina Veterans Council), Rep. Donnie Loftis (Gaston County), and Secretary Mallette (NC.dmva), who emphasized the significance of engaging with NC Legislators. This was particularly important as it marked the first event since the COVID pandemic.

Our trustees were paired with The National Montford Point Marine Association to outline five key priorities during discussions with Legislators in their offices.

On Wednesday afternoon, Governor Josh Stein officially signed Executive Order No. 38, with NC.dmva Secretary Jocelyn Mallette and Veterans Bridge Home CEO Blake Bourne in attendance.

Each cabinet agency will appoint a Military Affairs Coordinator tasked with providing guidance on challenges, support, and opportunities for the military-affiliated community. NCDMVA will spearhead collaboration across agencies.

The purpose of Executive Order No. 38 aims to:
* Strengthen services for communities connected to the NC Military by promoting cooperation among NC Agencies
* Enhance communication between military bases and their neighboring communities
* Heighten state awareness of programs and operations that influence military resilience and readiness.

“North Carolina’s military-connected community is one of our greatest strengths, but supporting servicemembers, veterans, and families requires coordination across government, community, and nonprofit partners. This executive order recognizes that no single agency or organization can do this work alone and that when we align our efforts, we can better serve those who have served.” Blake Bourne, CEO of Veterans Bridge Home
