Last week the Council on Older Adults partnered with Aqueelah Emanuel, Founder and CEO of AQ’s Corner. Her company teaches Cybersecurity, AI Literacy, Digital Safety Education. She was gracious and excited to teach our seniors who get lunch at our congregate site located at the Cumberland County Association for Indian People, on Downing Road. They had a lot of fun doing interactive learning, playing out real life scenarios and learning new information. She even gave out certificates for completing the training. Thank you for caring about the seniors and helping everyone feel more comfortable navigating through technology and possible scams. We appreciate you AQ's Corner

You can reach her on FB or email her at [email protected] for training/education.

This afternoon our SHIIP County Coordinator, Mrs. Ellouise, presented Sam Hutchinson, MSW/LCSW/Health Care Administrator at Cape Fear Valley Health, with a certificate of recognition for providing 25 years of dedicated service to the citizens of NC and to the Senior Health Insurance Information Program. This honor comes straight from the Dept. of Insurance, Commissioner Mike Causey’s Office. Sam is a huge advocate for the seniors and making sure they get what they need before they are discharged from the hospital. Thank you for all you do!

If you are interested in becoming a SHIIP Volunteer, you can contact Ellouise Garvin at 910-484-0111 and/or if you are in need of senior health insurance information counseling, it is done by appointment only and you can contact one of our counselors for that as well. SHIIP Counselors can help Medicare beneficiaries about Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Part D and Long Term Care insurance. They are not licensed agents, cannot sell or endorse.

A special thanks to Mrs. Penny and the members of St. James Lutheran Church for bringing us another batch of fidget blankets and bibs for the seniors of the community. These items take time and are clearly made with lots of love and intention. We are grateful!

This morning, our staff participated in the United Way of Cumberland County Meal Packing Event, there were over 700 volunteers and 70,000 meals were packed! We are honored to be a part of this each year, doing our part to assist in food insecurity beyond doing Meals on Wheels ❤️
