Creativity, confidence, and a little bit of theatrical magic were on full display at Rick’s Place this week!
After spending the past nine weeks learning, creating, rehearsing, and growing together, participants in the Cape Fear Regional Theatre Passports Program took the stage for their culminating performances of “The Magic of Monsters” (7-9 age group) and “Don’t Mess with Hungry Kids” (10-14 age group).
Throughout the program, military-connected youth had the opportunity to develop communication skills, build confidence, express their creativity, and work together as a team. What began as weekly theater classes transformed into an unforgettable showcase of imagination, courage, and hard work.
From first rehearsals to final bows, these young performers demonstrated what can happen when children are given a supportive space to learn, take risks, and discover their voices. Families filled the audience to celebrate not only the performances themselves, but also the tremendous growth each student experienced along the way.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Cumberland Community Foundation for its generous grant through the Helen Jones Melvin Education Endowment. Their support helps children from military families explore imagination, build confidence, and strengthen teamwork through theater education. Their investment continues to create meaningful opportunities that inspire growth, creativity, and lifelong memories for the youth we serve.
A special thank you to Cape Fear Regional Theatre for partnering with Rick’s Place to bring high-quality arts programming to military families in our community. We are incredibly proud of every student who stepped onto the stage and shared their talents with us.
Bravo, performers! 👏
