This week, Canopy is welcoming our new neighbors into their homes. Do you want to be part of this exciting process?

Donate! We are accepting Welcome Kits and furniture.

Looking for a Northwest Arkansas gem to try? Visit Kabul Chef food truck on Dickson Street in Fayetteville. The food is FANTASTIC!

Kabul Chef’s owner, Aziz, came to Arkansas from Afghanistan, bringing his ingenuity, hard work, and delicious cuisine. He completed Canopy’s 12-week Entrepreneur Training and noticed that Northwest Arkansas was missing Afghan food options. Canopy’s training supported him in bringing his vision to life through foundational planning and business plan refinement.

At Canopy, we are inspired by the immigrants and refugees who contribute their talents, perspectives, and cultures to our community. They make Northwest Arkansas a special place to call home.

Around the world, people gather together at tables to share food and build connections.

Every country and culture celebrates in its own way, with its own flavors, but sharing a meal is universal. This year’s Hispanic Heritage Month theme says it best: "Unidos, somos más," which means "Together, we are more."

Canopy believes that our Northwest Arkansas community is stronger and more welcoming when we stand together.

A shared meal on the table is a great way to build unity, so we asked our staff what their favorite dish from home is. Are your mouths watering yet?

We hope you try a delicious dish and celebrate community with us this October. While you share a meal, take a moment to think about the people and places behind the recipe.

Spend a few minutes with Canopy's Executive Director, Joanna Krause. We have a lot to talk about. September and October have been eventful months, and Canopy wants to sit down with our supportive community to chat about reality, commitment, and hope.

At Canopy, we work harder when circumstances are hard. You make our efforts stronger and more joyful. We couldn't welcome refugees, walk alongside immigrants, foster community innovation, and create positivity without you.

We are still here. We are still welcoming. We are still celebrating the people and cultures that make Northwest Arkansas so vibrant.

Our very own Entrepreneurship Outreach Coordinator, Katrina Reimer, was featured on the 90.9 KLRC More Than Small Talk podcast. Hosts Suzanne Eller, Holley Gerth, and Jennifer Renee Watson spoke with Katrina about Canopy’s work—and, more importantly, about the amazing people who walk through Canopy’s doors.

In this segment, Katrina reminds us that “refugee” is a status, and that people are not defined by the vulnerable circumstances they may find themselves in. Refugees and immigrants who have left their home countries are family members, friends, spouses, professionals, artists, teachers, business owners, world changers and so much more. Every new neighbor you meet has a story to tell.

We need to remember the value of every person Canopy serves. They bring so much to our Northwest Arkansas community. Thank you for reminding us of this, Katrina!

At Canopy, we believe in the power of education and a nurturing environment. Our Youth Services are designed to help our little new neighbors thrive in their community and school systems. This commitment extends through our after-school programs!

Canopy is very grateful to be in community with Fayetteville Public Library and the Volunteer Action Center at the University of Arkansas.

The Fayetteville Public Library hosts the Passionate About Literacy (PAL) program, Canopy youth, and student mentors every week, championing reading skills and tutoring relationships that foster learning and fun in Northwest Arkansas.

Canopy youth are matched with volunteer student mentors that read with them, meeting them at their learning levels and encouraging their progress.

We extend our gratitude to the student leaders, volunteers, and library staff that make this educational opportunity possible for Canopy families!

Meet Muna, a talented Libyan baker sharing her culture with Northwest Arkansas through traditional sweets, and meet Saja, Canopy's Inspired Hands Program Coordinator whose own journey from Iraq helps her understand the courage it takes to build a new life.

Through Canopy’s Inspired Hands program, immigrant and refugee women are turning their talents into opportunities, building connections, practicing English, and creating greater stability for themselves and their families.

For Muna, food is more than a recipe. It’s a way to share her heritage, make new friends, and build a business of her own.

For Saja, Inspired Hands participants are the heart of what she does. She loves seeing them thrive and bring joy to our community.
