Although April is a shorter month, Fayette Samaritans continued to help an average of eight families per day with food assistance and financially to help prevent eviction and/or having utilities disconnected. Groceries were provided to 113 families and 49 families received financial assistance. Families may receive assistance with groceries once a month. Financial assistance is limited to once per year. Supporting documentation is required for assistance.

The Fayetteville Public Library is again having a summer food drive for Fayette Samaritans. This year’s theme is “Unearth a Story”. Promotion will include “Help us unearth stories of kindness in our community by donating items to support local families in need. Every contribution helps make a difference!” More information to follow.

Thank you to the library and everyone who donates to make the work of Samaritans possible. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.

We live in difficult times. As this is being written millions of Americans are expected to seek help with food. Fayette Samaritans has already seen a significant increase in the number of families in our county requesting assistance. Of particular concern is the number of families with young children and seniors requesting help. In the four weeks of October, Samaritans provided groceries to 147 families. There have been several pantry donations made by first time donors or donors who have not contributed for a while. Especially helpful are canned meats such as canned tuna and chicken, peanut butter, canned soups, and canned fruits and vegetables. Any donation is welcome and greatly appreciated. Thank you.
