Elk in Arkansas were introduced into the Buffalo National River thirty years ago by the "Game" & Fish Commission, and it's clear what their goal was: to increase profits for the tourism and hunting industries, and increase revenues for the AG&FC! They should re-introduce cougars into the Buffalo River valley, and let Nature "manage" the elk population!

The cougar (a.k.a. mountain lion or panther) was considered extirpated from Arkansas for decades, but recently these nocturnal animals have been sighted in many locations around the state. The Arkansas "Game" & Fish Commission so far refuses to acknowledge the presence of wild cougars, insisting that the animals found here are escaped from captivity.
