A Memorial Day Mystery. At least this is a mystery to me. Maybe some of you have the answers. In our veterans wall at the research center at 195 Lee Street I found information on Searcy Jones. An online investigation found in the census from 1910 Searcy as 20 years old living with his parents and siblings. Further online investigation showed a registration card to the military showing he was a platform clerk with Southern Railroad Company when he enlisted. Looking on Find a Grave, we find he's buried in Arlington National Cemetery and his parents are Clark buried in Senoia and Dorothy buried in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. But the mystery is that in Arlington National Cemetery he's listed as a private in 106 infantry which is from New York. And the paperwork that I found shows that he was actually with the 9th infantry machine gun company buried in Sedan American Cemetery . What do you think? What do you know?
Have a safe memorial Day weekend.

Please join us July 3rd, 6-8 pm.

This will be a family-friendly event. There will be a Valley Forge-style encampment, Revolutionary War experience stations, crafts, historical portrayals, and the Historical Society museum will be open. Andy's Frozen Custard will be on site and a DJ from Kewl Kat Productions playing patriotic tunes.

Plan to join the fun and bring the whole family!
