Gold Star Teen Adventures

Gold Star Teen Adventures Gold Star Teen Adventures provides adventure opportunities for the children of fallen military.

New Applicants: https://gstadventures.campintouch.com/ui/forms/application/camper/App
Existing Applicants: https://gstadventures.campintouch.com/v2/login.aspx Kent Solheim, a special operations service member was very seriously wounded in combat in Iraq in 2007, ultimately resulting in the loss of his right leg. Kent’s experiences on his road to recovery inspired the creation of Gold Star Teen Adv

entures. Kent, a father of two, realized that if he had not made it home, he would have still wanted his children to know the brotherhood of the special operations community that he had grown to love, and to share in the adventures that his career had permitted him to do. Additionally, Kent realized that he experienced emotional healing when he was able to spend time with others that had endured similar trauma in their lives. GSTA was created to provide an environment where gold star children can come together and be a part of new and exciting experiences with others who have shared a similar journey. GSTA is committed to serving and honoring this community of people that have sacrificed so much.

Every skill, every adventure, and every accomplishment starts with being a beginner. The first dive, the first paddle stroke, the first step outside your comfort zone—it might feel awkward, challenging, or even a little intimidating. That's okay.

This summer, give yourself permission to try something new. Take the leap, embrace the learning curve, and discover what you're capable of. Growth doesn't happen when we stay comfortable—it happens when we're willing to try. 🌊☀️

🌊 Meet Another Incredible Dive Instructor Joining Us This Summer — Charlie! 🌊

Charlie calls Key West home, where he lives with his wife, Charity, their dog, and three cats. Together, they have a wonderfully blended family that includes two daughters, a son, and five grandchildren.

Charlie earned his scuba certification in 2010 while on a work trip in Pensacola, but he says his true diving journey began in 2012 in Beaufort, North Carolina, when he became a dive instructor alongside fellow GSTA instructor and best friend, Danny Dober. Since then, Charlie has found tremendous fulfillment in helping new divers discover the beauty and wonder of the underwater world.

His passion for diving is fueled by the opportunity to explore new reefs, embrace the unique challenges that every dive site presents, and help others push past their fears and build confidence. As Charlie puts it, “There’s nothing better than the reward of enjoying fresh, ethically harvested fish after a day underwater!”

When he’s not diving, Charlie stays busy in a variety of roles. He works for the National Weather Service as an Electronics Systems Analyst, holds an active Captain’s License, and serves as a part-time real estate agent. He is also deeply committed to giving back, dedicating countless hours to volunteer work in his local community. In his free time, Charlie enjoys golfing, fishing, and woodworking.

As a veteran, Charlie is especially passionate about serving the participants of the Scuba Academy. He shares, “I am excited to provide these teens with the same sense of adventure and confidence that diving has given me, while honoring the legacy of their families.”

Fun Fact: Charlie has never lived in one state for more than four years! Growing up, his family moved frequently, taking him everywhere from rural West Virginia to downtown Columbus, Ohio. Those experiences taught him how to feel at home wherever he goes and gave him a deep appreciation for the unique stories and backgrounds of the people he meets.

Please join us in giving Charlie a warm GSTA welcome in the comments! 👇⚓🐠

Today we honor the life and legacy of Staff Sergeant Pedro Lacerda — a Ranger, warrior, mentor, and champion whose impact on the Army combatives community continues to be felt today.

SSG Lacerda served with the 75th Ranger Regiment and dedicated himself to excellence both on and off the battlefield. A highly skilled Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor and Army combatives champion, he played a major role in developing and strengthening the Army’s combatives program while mentoring countless Soldiers along the way.

Known for his discipline, humility, and relentless drive, Pedro inspired those around him to push harder, lead better, and embody the warrior ethos. Following his passing in 2010, the Army renamed its premier combatives championship the “Lacerda Cup” in his honor — ensuring his legacy would continue inspiring generations of Soldiers to come.

Though gone far too soon, SSG Pedro Lacerda’s legacy lives on through every Soldier he trained, every competitor who steps onto the mat for the Lacerda Cup, and every life touched by his leadership and example.

We remember and honor SSG Pedro Lacerda today and always. 🇺🇸
