On August 26, 2026, Trump declared a national emergency concerning the security of the U.S. power grid. The order is titled “Declaring a National Emergency to Secure the United States Bulk-Power System.”⁠

It addresses:

* Foreign equipment vulnerabilities, including potential digital backdoors and remote access.

* Cyberattack, sabotage, and supply disruption risks.

* Restrictions on acquiring or installing foreign equipment determined to pose those threats.

The declaration is NOT an announcement that a nationwide blackout is happening or imminent. Its stated purpose is to protect grid infrastructure from foreign interference.
