Earlier today, Engine 3 responded to an unusual request for assistance in the parking lot of Building 3001.

A worker who had just driven approximately 20 miles to work exited her vehicle and heard a sound coming from under the hood. After locating the source of the cries, Engine 3โ€™s crew quickly went to work and safely extricated the kitten.

The vehicle owner had no idea where the kitten had come from and was unable to locate its owner. Crews transported the kitten to the base veterinary clinic, where she was examined and fortunately found to be free of any injuries.

With no owner identified, one of our firefighters stepped up to provide the kitten with a loving forever home. What started as a routine drive to work ended with a rescue and a new family member.

Pictured is Lt. Duffiney, one of the firefighters involved in the rescue, holding the kitten, who has yet to receive her name.

๐Ÿพ It truly takes a community. ๐Ÿพ

This week, we were reminded just how important the partnership between our residents and Animal Control Officers is in the work we do every day.

On Wednesday, Springdale Police Department received a call from a concerned resident about a possum that had been struck and killed by a vehicle. When one of our Animal Control Officers responded, she discovered something incredibleโ€”11 tiny joeys, often called โ€œpinkies,โ€ still alive in their motherโ€™s pouch.

Thanks to her training, quick thinking, and compassion, every single baby was carefully removed and brought back to our shelter. Our team immediately gathered the supplies needed for tube feeding and worked to locate a willing and experienced rehabilitator who could provide the specialized care these little ones need.

Because a resident took the time to make a call, and because of the dedication and expertise of our Animal Control Officers, 11 young lives were given a second chance.

Animal welfare is truly a team effort. We are grateful for our community members who stay vigilant and report animals in need, and we are proud of the compassionate professionals who respond when those calls come in.

These 11 tiny joeys are a perfect reminder that even the smallest lives can make a big impact. โค๏ธ
