North Carolina Chapter No. 97, National Sojourners had a wonderful time today participating in MeckDec Day at the Charlotte Museum of History!

We began the day performing Color Guard duties for the first tour of Brother Hezekiah Alexander’s Homestead. Originally built in 1774, it is the oldest surviving structure in Mecklenburg County and once served as a meeting place for Freemasons during that era.

Brother Hezekiah Alexander is remembered as one of the authors of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence on May 20, 1775, as well as a member of the committee that helped draft North Carolina’s first constitution.

Following our ceremonial duties, we were proud to present several “Build a Flag” programs throughout the day. It was especially rewarding to see the excitement and participation from the children, who helped place the stars on the canton to complete the flag.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this such a meaningful and educational event celebrating history, patriotism, and community fellowship.
