Excited that it’s Friday! NOT excited about this. We have an excessive heat warning for today. It’s going to feel like triple digits… as high as 108 🥵. Stay hydrated, take those breaks, find that shade.

Today heat and temperatures will be in triple digits. Reaching 105-110 degrees outside. It is too hot for homeless served by Fayetteville Cares (DRC) to ignore this. The policy of kicking people out not receiving services is ridiculous. Rest and recovery is very important for people experiencing homelessness. Sleeping outside in 90 to 100 degrees temps is not only exhausting but also life threatening. .

In a separate situation past year Manna already has had homeless men die on there watch at manna dream center. Staff never checked the shower the body was dead for no less than 4 hours between staff changes. ( Body was conspicuously removed during lunch)

Manna claims that they are doing a Radical Hospitality approach to providing supportive services. DRC needs to be a cooling center. It's located between two closed shelter's from 9-5 One is its own and the other is Salvation Army. This location was selected by the city to make services accessible and convenient for our unhoused citizens to be able to easily access services. Manna has no housing plan in place . Least they can do is provide shelter and safety between the basic hours of 9-5 Mon-Fri.. They close on weekends Recent govt rulings have criminalized being homeless. Manna Church with 30 years of experience according to them,can either help the situation or they can enable it. . Initial behavior and plans indicate that they choose to enable criminalization of homelessness. How s this radical hospitality?
