🌟 Partner Agency Spotlight 🌟

The Food Pantry program at Highland Presbyterian Church has worked to address food insecurity in the community by providing access to healthy food for more than 40 years.

Every week, the pantry serves an average of 250 households in partnership with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast NC. With a team of volunteers, Highland packs bags and boxes every Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, and distributions are held every Thursday.

We appreciate Highland's Food Pantry for working with us alleviate food insecurity in our communities.

Newly released federal data found SNAP enrollment fell from 42.2 million in May 2025 to 36.6 million in May, a drop of more than 13% in a year. The May data are preliminary and could be revised.

The number of people receiving SNAP food aid has fallen more than 13% in a year as changes to the biggest U.S. food aid program start to kick in.

When a family loses SNAP, their kids can lose automatic eligibility for free school meals too.

New national reporting highlights something a lot of families don't realize is connected: SNAP and free school meals.

When a family loses SNAP, their kids can lose automatic eligibility for free school meals too. And when enough students in a school lose SNAP, the whole school can lose the ability to offer free meals to every student, not just the ones who qualify individually.

According to the article, up to 18.3 million students nationally could be affected this school year. For a family with two kids in school, losing free meals could mean over $2,000 more in food costs this year alone. Miami-Dade County Public Schools has already had to scale back its free meal program for this reason.

Neighbors count on SNAP for groceries at home and reliable meals for their kids at school.

📦 Where does the food go after it leaves Second Harvest?

It doesn’t stay in our warehouse. It makes its way into communities across Southeast North Carolina through our network of partner agencies.

Food donated to Second Harvest is sorted, stored and distributed to local food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, meal programs and other community organizations. These partners are on the front lines, connecting food with neighbors who need it most.

Every box, can, bag and fresh food item has a destination — a family’s kitchen table, a senior’s pantry, a child’s dinner or a neighbor’s next meal. ❤️

When you support Second Harvest, you’re helping move food from where it’s available to where it’s needed most.

Help us keep the food moving and hunger at bay. Make a donation today:
