On August 25, 2026, at 4:14 p.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle collision on Morganton Road at E Loch Haven Road which resulted in a fatality and multiple injuries. A total of six vehicles were involved in the collision.

Francisco Irizarry-Gonzalez, 26-year-old Hispanic male, of Fort Bragg, NC, was pronounced deceased at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. His next of kin has been notified.

Seven other individuals were treated for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the collision and are expected to recover.

The Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit is currently handling the investigation.

I couldn’t leave work today without sharing a little of the joy, happiness, and even a few tears from today’s ceremony.

Twenty. Twenty men and women successfully completed six months of training—six months that challenged them physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Today, surrounded by family, friends, instructors, and fellow officers, they raised their hands and took the oath.

While editing these photos, I’ll admit… I caught myself getting a little emotional too. Seeing the hugs, the tears, the proud smiles, and the overwhelming support reminded me that today wasn’t just about earning a badge.

It was about 20 people who made a decision to change their lives so they could serve and make a difference in their community.

I captured a lot of moments today—far too many to share in one post—but I wanted to leave you with just a few.

To our newest Fayetteville Police Officers: congratulations. You earned this moment.

And to the families who stood beside them through these six long months—this moment belongs to you, too.💙

🚨 BARRICADED SUSPECT SAFELY TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOLLOWING DOMESTIC INCIDENT 🚨

On Sunday, August 23, 2026, Fayetteville Police Department officers responded to the 1000 block of Cedar Creek Road in reference to an active domestic incident.

Upon arrival, officers determined that the suspect, identified as Dustin Lee Ellis (W/M, 29), had broken into the residence and barricaded himself inside. Officers quickly established a containment perimeter and safely evacuated the victims.

Due to the nature of the situation, specialized units were deployed, including the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), Tactical Aviation Support, Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT). Despite repeated attempts by negotiators to achieve a peaceful resolution, Ellis refused to comply. Utilizing specialized tactics, officers safely took Ellis into custody inside the residence. He was evaluated at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center prior to processing.

Today, August 25, 2026, Ellis was processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center and is currently being held without bond on the following charges:

Many of our officers serve in roles the public may never get the chance to see.

Detective Robinson is one of them.

Along with her duties as a detective, she proudly volunteers as a member of our Honor Guard—a role that requires discipline, precision, respect, and countless hours of preparation.

As she gets ready for today’s ceremony, we wanted to capture this moment behind the scenes. The uniform. The preparation. The attention to every detail. It’s a side of service that often happens when no one is watching.

🎉We had so much fun this past Saturday at Unity Christian Church’s Celebrating Family Event at the Kiwanis Recreation Center! Our Central District Crime Prevention Specialists were joined by Chief Bryan and Assistant Chief Wallace at the event. They enjoyed getting to meet everyone and speak with them about the programs offered by the Fayetteville Police Department.

Good evening, Fayetteville!

Tonight, at the City Council Meeting, Chief Bryan presented the department’s report for the 2nd Quarter of 2026. In the report, he talked about the recent data, trends we are seeing in the community and our commitment to keeping you safe.

From January through June 30:
• Homicide incidents are down 54%
• FPD Homicide Unit has a 100% case clearance rate (Jan 1 - June 30, 2026)
• R**e incidents are down 29%
• Felony Domestic Aggravated Assaults are down 16%
• Motor Vehicle Thefts are down 23%
• Robberies are down 21%

However, we still have work to do and are committed to making Fayetteville safer.

Morning, morning.

This morning, we want to show some appreciation to our Traffic Control Officers out on Ireland Drive and SRO Skidmore for helping our students start their day safely.

From getting kids across the street, helping buses move in properly, and making sure students get where they need to be, they continue to be a light for so many.

Thank you for showing up each morning with patience, care, and a smile.

Parents, we KNOW y’all are excited.

Some of y’all woke up this morning like:

🕺 “WAKE UP! WE GOT PLACES TO BE!”

Meanwhile the kids are in the bed like:

😴 “I don’t recall agreeing to this.”

But listen…

The house is about to be QUIET.

The snacks might actually last longer than 12 hours.

Nobody is going to ask you “what are we doing today?” approximately 67 times.

And you might…..JUST MIGHT…….get to use the bathroom without someone knocking on the door asking for something. 😭💀

Parents…

THIS IS YOUR SEASON.

☕ Drink your coffee while it’s HOT.
📺 Watch something without hearing “MOMMMMM!” or “DAAAAD!”
🧘‍♀️ Enjoy the silence.
💃 Take a victory lap around the house if necessary.

BUTTTTT…

There is one tiny problem.

🚗🚌 THE TRAFFIC.

Because while the kids are returning to the classroom…

THE ENTIRE CITY IS RETURNING TO THE ROADS. 😭

School buses.
Parents.
Teachers.
Staff.
Carpool lines.
Everybody is OUTSIDE.

So FAYYYETTEVILLEEEE, please prepare yourself.

If your normal commute takes 20 minutes…

Maybe give yourself a little extra time today. 😂

🚗 Slow down.
🚌 Watch for school buses.
🚸 Watch for kids and pedestrians.
📵 Put the phone down.
😌 Be patient with the parent who is on Day 1 of figuring out this new morning routine.

PLEASE don’t be so excited about dropping the kids off that you forget you still have to drive home. 😭😂

First day of school photos are an adorable keepsake, but when it comes to sharing on social media less is best.
