Greetings friends,
Everyone is aware of the devastating flood on the border of Nepal and Tibet on Wednesday, the 26th of August. The videography, photography and news coverage has brought the tragedy to the attention of the world. As I write this, 903 people have died and 4,247 are missing.
A massive glacier collapse may have triggered a devastating chain reaction that sent a wall of water, mud and debris rushing down the mountainous Rasuwa Region in Nepal taking out roads, bridges, buildings, villages and infrastructure.
Unfortunately, Nepal is no stranger to devastation due to natural events. In March 2015, a massive earthquake destroyed buildings, roads, infrastructure and killed nearly 9,000 people and left 3.5 million homeless.
Face to Faith sent a relief team to work with Pastor Bishwa and his church in July of 2015 to provide relief to villages and people in the hard-to-reach Himalayan Mountains.
Pastor Bishwa is Nepal’s National Trainer for Face to Faith Ministry. He and his wife, Gopi, live in Kathmandu and thankfully are safe. Their church and Bible School train evangelists and church planters. They have planted several churches in the Himalayan Mountains. Unfortunately, the Christian community has experienced great loss.
Syaprubesi Church, Rasuwa - Three members are missing and the church building has been damaged.
Punarutthan Church, Rasuwa - The church building has been severely damaged.
Punarutthan Church, Nuwakot -The church has been damaged and the pastor is missing.
Mailung Church, Rasuwa - Approximately 50 members are missing and the church building has been damaged.
Sanit Bazar, Nuwakot - Approximately 30 members have died.
Timure Church, Rasuwa - The pastor is reportedly the only survivor found alive. Many members are reported to have died.
Tukche Anugrah Church, Nuwakot - Four members are missing.
Dakbari Church, Rasuwa – Seventeen members are missing.
Communication and transportation into the affected areas is extremely difficult. Bishwa will continue contacting pastors and church leaders to learn what people’s critical needs are.
Pray earnestly for the missing and injured. Pray for the families who have lost loved ones and for the churches and communities that have been devastated.
You can contribute towards their needs through Face to Faith. Earmark your donation “Nepal.” We will work to help as many people as possible.
