A Message From Greger’s Former Squad Leader
Sgt. Anthony Alzate
2nd Platoon, 1st Squad
C Co. 1-505 PIR, 82nd Airborne Division
I had the honor and privilege of leading Greger as his squad leader from 2005 to 2008 during our time in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division. In those years, Greger proved himself to be more than just a soldier — he was a leader within his team, a trusted friend to his brothers-in-arms, and a true patriot.
Greger took on critical responsibilities in our squad, maintaining our vehicle equipment and serving as our radio operator — one of the most vital and dangerous positions in any patrol. Radio operators are often the first targets for enemy snipers, since disrupting communications can cripple an entire unit.
On one patrol, Greger was indeed singled out by sniper fire. Despite being injured, he showed extraordinary courage and composure. He kept his head, continued to provide critical communication, and helped us coordinate security and evacuation under fire. His bravery that day not only saved lives but ensured the mission’s success. That kind of selflessness is who Greger has always been.
After his military service, Greger carried that same spirit of service into his community, working as a public transportation driver and dedicating himself to helping others day in and day out.
Now, it’s our turn to step up for him.
Just a few nights ago, Greger’s apartment was destroyed in a devastating fire caused by a neighboring unit. While he was fortunate to escape with his life, he lost everything else — his home, his possessions, and his sense of stability.
👉 This is our chance to give back to someone who has given so much — to his country, his brothers-in-arms, and his community.
Please consider donating whatever you can to help Greger rebuild his life. Every contribution — big or small — will help provide him with the essentials he needs to start again.
Greger stood strong for us when it mattered most. Let’s stand strong for him now.
