Resilience Through Movement Foundation Combating PTSD through physical activity and community

07/10/2024

We are thrilled to announce a significant development that will enhance our ability to support those affected by trauma. The Resilience Through Movement Foundation is merging into The Weekly Fight, combining our strengths and expanding our reach to better serve our community.

The mission of Resilience Through Movement Foundation will continue under the umbrella of The Weekly Fight, ensuring ongoing support for the trauma-affected population. This merger allows us to adopt and implement the impactful 4 and 10-week challenges that promote healthy routines to combat Post Traumatic Stress (PTS).

In addition to these new initiatives, the Weekly Fight remains committed to all active programs. This includes their free workouts at partner gyms and their financial support initiatives for veteran and first responder families in financial crisis. We are proud to uphold these essential services and expand our offerings.

We are also excited to extend an invitation to our current Resilience Through Movement Foundation partner gyms. If you are interested in becoming a partner gym for The Weekly Fight, please reach out to us for more information (https://www.theweeklyfight.org/). We value your partnership and look forward to continuing our collaboration. Partner gyms for The Weekly Fight agree to host a class free to the public each week, catering to all skill levels and athletic needs. This is a great opportunity for community outreach and to get new people connected with your gym community.

Furthermore, The Weekly Fight will uphold and expand the Trauma Informed Coaching courses. These courses will now be available both online and in-person, catering to fitness and youth sports coaches nationwide.

We are also pleased to welcome Dr. Tyler Meade to the board of The Weekly Fight as the Director of Research. Dr. Meade’s expertise and dedication will ensure the continuation and growth of our educational initiatives.

We are grateful for your continued support and look forward to this new chapter of growth and collaboration.

This was a rather interesting needs assessment when you take into consideration the staggering number of people dealing with mental health concerns and then realizing how many are NOT seeking help.
Whether it’s fear of judgement, fear of being triggered, or another reason, we need to find ways to help. As coaches, gyms, teammates, friends, and families come together to offer support we can help overcome stigmas. By using physical activity we can help them decrease the severity of their symptoms and hopefully working together we can open the doors to support leading to lifelong change.

In the journey of mental health, social support acts as a guiding light, illuminating the path towards resilience and well-being. Whether it's a shoulder to lean on, an empathetic ear, or a comforting presence, or a workout accountability partner, social connections play a crucial role in navigating life's challenges.
Research consistently shows that strong social support networks can buffer against stress, alleviate feelings of loneliness, and promote overall mental wellness. By fostering meaningful connections, we cultivate a sense of belonging and acceptance, creating a safety net during tough times.
Let's prioritize strengthening our social connections and reaching out to those in need. Together, we can break the stigma surrounding mental health and foster a community of understanding and support.
