On May 29, 2026, in Shelby, North Carolina, a doorbell camera captured a Shelby police officer throwing Cherrie Moore to the ground and punching her repeatedly in the head during an arrest.

Officer Karson Hyder was placed on leave and fired within 24 hours. Chief Brad Fraser called the actions “disturbing”.

Cherrie Moore suffered a broken nose and facial injuries. She was later released.
